I know a letter might clear up these questions,
but I'm retired and that expense is something of a bump for a shooter piece
that was fair priced $400 after some haggling.

I have a 15-2 and the S# K7659XX sets it in 1967. it in excellent mechanical condition.
and has some thinning blue holster wear, no rust pits, and a beauty of a bore.

I'm told it was service revolver, carried a lot, shot very little, which I agree it was well cared for. Grips serial # to the gun.
The story is it was a Border Service gun, from Niagara, NY (bought the gun, not the story applies). The question is, did U.S. (or Canadian?) Buy or issue Mod. 15's or were they every officer/agent purchased?
I have read the US Border Service used Magnums? was it exclusively magnums? (pre-autos)
Perhaps the Canadians?
There are no other marks indication of any agency, should/would there be?
I realize a letter might be the only definitive answer.

Hopefully someone will chime in with some info for you. I don’t know if border patrol back then issued guns or agents bought their own, or if the 15’s were issued guns with agents having the option to use a personal owned weapon. Considering the era, certainly an issued model 15 would certainly be plausible. I look forward to seeing some answers from people far more knowledgeable about this!

You got a very fair price on a very desirable gun. It may have been a LE service weapon, But whether or not it was in service with the Border Patrol or INS I could not definitively tell you either yes or no. Are there any stampings or markings on the gun that might lead you to think so? Other than a factory letter there may be no other sure way of knowing.
Regardless you got a great gun at a more than fair price.
