Hi to all can anybody tell me when the S&W logo first appeared on the frame of the new model no 3 and rough date and also does anybody know of any Famous characters who carried them ,Photos would be good
Thank you in advance

As I understand it, the official S&W logo was designed by Gustave Young in the late 1870s and adopted on some models around that timeframe. During the WWI era, the company stopped stamping the frame until maybe 1920 or so.

As for famous people that have owned a New Model 3, Annie Oakley, Texas Jack Omohundro, Bob Ford, Buffalo Bill Cody, Henry Cabot Lodge, Ira Paine, Theodore Roosevelt, Harry M. Pope, and Frank Butler to name some. It is speculated that Jess James may have owned a NM3, but not documented.

David Chicoine's book Smith & Wesson Sixguns of the Old West have many photos and details that are of interest to any S&W collector of 1800s revolvers.
