New No Lock Model 36-11 - Arrived

OP's gun looks fantastic. Aside from hoping that they revert the frame curvature near the hammer back to that of the pre-lock frames, I'm thoroughly pleased with these new no-lock models. As soon as I can find a new no-lock Model 10, it's coming home with me!

b737lvr, that really looks like a used and abused gun. Get in touch with S&W ASAP, and as a general rule I try to never buy anything new production these days without looking it over in a shop first if I'm able to. Quality control across manufacturing as a whole has slipped lately, but it's especially evident in the gun industry.

Congratulations. I normally don’t get too excited over J frames but I think I’ll add one of these. It may be that green ashtray that is a frequent showing in many of your posts that triggers my nostalgia buttons. :D

Very sorry to hear this. I’m hoping SW QC starts getting better / consistent soon. And I do hope you get a new gun to replace that asap.

I must be missing something. I don’t understand paying more for a new model than an original no lock gun. We all know the QC is horrible these days as stated above as a perfect example. Is it about just owning the newest product? I can’t see any advantage at all. Maybe I’m overlooking something and need to be guided in the right direction. It made since with the new Pythons and other Colts at half the price of the older ones, but I can’t see $1k for a model 36 or 10

I think part of it is having the latest/greatest. there are other advantages though. the lifetime warranty, and parts availability. it could be challenging at this point to get repair work done on some vintage, pre lock guns because of lack of parts.

FWIW, the internet has allowed a lot more communication about unsatisfactory products. It would not surprise me that if we could know, there were an ample number of unsatisfactory products from S&W. Remember for example the problems with .22 revolver chambers being ill-cut all the way back to Keith's days.

Not defending the Adam Frank Union stuff being delivered, just noting that it might not be a new phenomenon. When my agency had 1076s than 4566s, a lot of them were broken right out of the box or did not stand up to even the first range sessions.

Same thing happened in early '80's when we got in 8 S&W model 66's. I'd still rather own and shoot a S&W revolver than a Colt or Taurus.

This brings back the memory of my wife wanting a pickup to haul the Great Dane dog she had acquired,,

It was 1999,, she did not like the 1/2 ton truck's ride,,
she wanted a 3/4 ton,,

Well,, the NEW 6.0 engine had just come out,,
the truck she wanted was the third truck that had been delivered to the Roanoke Valley,,

I cringed,, thinking about how that truck was going to have "New Model" problems,,
BUT,, it was what the wife wanted,,

The 6.0 engine turned out to be a good one,,
We still use the truck, over 25 years later,,,,,,,,

The OP’s M36 looks good, and I am real happy to see they are available now. But, the second M36, owe….

Where are these new revolvers being made? And, if this is new employees, then what is their problem? I really want a blued 2” M36, and new versions should have factory support (which we should not need)…. But, wow….

This long and difficult day ended on a high note. My good friends at Carolina Sporting Arms in Charlotte, NC called to say that my new "no lock" Model 36-11 arrived today.

It looks great. Hard to take good photos inside. Excuse the oil smudges. I think it looks sharp. Still waiting on the new 10, 19, both Mountain Guns, and the titanium UC.

Looks like Smith & Wesson is on the right track. If I could make one suggestion, let's bring back a vintage looking "classic" box.

SWEET

Unfortunately not. Wiped the whole pistol down and it was covered in marks and scratches on the back strap, the frame, the barrel, the cylinder. Blueing worn in multiple places. The photos don't do it justice. Everybody that has looked at it both in person and text message (photos) has said without influence that the gun appears used.
Were you not allowed to inspect it before purchase?
I ordered my 642 PC no lock, pre-paid, at my FFL
but had full refusal "if" it was not acceptable.

It was most defiantly acceptable

Yeah I refused it. Decided to wait a few months before attempting to buy one again. Just ordered one Tuesday. I have a thread about it to update everyone how it goes
