I feel very fortunate to have found this site. I hope you fine people can help me find some information on a S&W revolver I received some 40 years ago and it has been stored for all this time. It is a 32-20 Cal. six shot, with a 7" barrel. I understand that in the old days people also carried a rifle of the same caliber so they could use like ammo. in both guns. I don't know if this is true but that is what I am led to believe. The first patent date stamped on the barrel is Mar 27, 1894 and the last date is Sept 14, 1909

I contacted S&W some time ago and they will furnish a letter on the history of the gun for a price. I wonder if that would be info worth having?

Since I am not a gun collector and any info you can furnish me or give me ways to gather info to determine the approx worth of this gun I would like to thank you in advance.

oldguy66,

Alas, I can't help you with you revolver question, but suggest you post it in 1896-1961 forum, you might get some more looks and therefore replies.

Welcome from TN! As Barry suggested, post in the other section, with a picture if possible, and you'll get your answers.

Welcome from Texas oldguy66. Great forum, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

While I have no first hand experience regarding carrying rifles and handguns in the same caliber I have read a number of credible reports where this a common practice in the Old West.
