Greetings to the forum! I've been a lurker for a while, just joined.
I've got a few older guns and am trying to learn more about them.
I'm wondering about the year of a 19-4, sn 40K8483. I was hoping someone could help me out? Most of the others are from the 90's.

Thanks old chief! I didn't think that it was that old. I just dug it out of the safe again. It's got the recessed cylinder and the barrel is pinned, also rubber grips. I think they are aftermarket.
Look forward to chatting with you guys!

All 40K serial numbers were issued in 1978, despite what the SCSW says. The gun might have shipped later, but it was assembled in 1978.

The Model 19-4 was made from 1977 until 1982, when it was replaced by the -5. That is also when the counter-bored charge holes and the pinned barrel were eliminated.

Yes, the "Goodyears" are an aftermarket addition. The 19-4 shipped with walnut or Goncalo Alves target stocks normally. It is possible that one shipped with walnut Magna stocks, but unlikely. In any case, rubber stocks were not factory-issued at that time.
