Hi folks,

I’m new to this Forum but not exactly new….. I’m a retired LEO who started his career in the mid 1970’s with a small department in NE OH. The department didn’t have an issue firearm/ammo or for that manner much of a firearm policy in those days. We bought our own weapons for carry, revolvers of course and supplied our own carry ammo. I carried at various times a S&W Model 10 heavy barrel, a blued 19, a blued 27 6” and a Model 66 4” before I left that department for a much larger one that I retired from.

The next agency issued a Colt .45 Govt. to all officers and my professional wheel gun days were over except as a backup weapon.

The above listed weapons are all long gone as kids were born, different “I wants” came along and the years rolled by. I still have a nickel Model 36 2” and a K-22 from the late 40’s my grandpa bought.

My 1911 itch has been scratched and I own a few very nice examples. I’d like to collect a revolver as an example of my early LE days.

I’m slowly getting to the point of this thread. I have been out of the S&W market for over 30 years. I’ve been poking around this website a bit recently after joining but here is my question. I know condition plays a large part in the prices these days and everything has gone crazy but……..

What are the current going prices for decent examples of a Model 27 or Model 19/66?? I know things have all risen but I’ve asked my LGS to keep an eye out for trade-ins or consignments of the above revolvers. Just looking for a range.

Thanks in advance. Bob

Not sure on the prices BUT, if you check the lounge for the NE Ohio bunch (meeting) You are welcome to come. May 12th from 10 am to 4 pm. If you have any questions, PM me your phone number and I'll call you. Larry

Model 27s and 19/66s are not hard to find. The prices vary a lot based on condition and vintage and barrel-length. A 6" 27 might be reasonable, those are in less demand than shorter barreled guns. And 4" 19s and 66s are not hard to find for decent prices either. But compared to what these cost back in the '70s, you'll experience some sticker-shock. However, if you have picked up some nice 1911s I suspect that you are used to sticker-shock!! :)

You can get some real decent shooting 19s or 66s in the $450 to $550 range. 10s and 64s come a lot cheaper. I don't see very many 27s anymore that are not $585 or more (and that's for a shooter grade gun). Good luck in your search.
