I'm wanting to take my wife to the Big Easy to watch my Oklahoma State Cowboys play in the Sugar Bowl. We will be flying in and would like to stay fairly close to the Stadium, I guess, if its in a good part of town. Any recommendations where to stay and what to do for a 4 day trip, not big into drinking or being around drunks.

Ought to be a GREAT game-two good teams. If you're not into drinking or being around drunks-you might reconsider and stay home :D
You could stay at the Hyatt right next to the dome. You can take the trolley to the quarter if you don't like walking about 7-8 blocks.
Me-I'd stay at the Mariott on Canal St. Can get everywhere from there pretty easy. River Walk Hilton is nice River Walk has nice stores. About a mile from the dome. GO on google and get maps of the CBD and te Quarter showing where everything is-it's pretty compact. But for my money I'd do the Mariott just for the location factor. There is the Sheraton right across the Street from it that I would also stay at if the Mariott is booked. That's where I'd stay if I were going (actually I's stay at my Brother in Laws or just drive in for the game :D)

Lots of nice shops in the Quarter on Royal, Chartres and Decater. Don't walk north of Bourbon St., east of Esplanade, west of Canal at night. Mr. B's Bistro on Royal is a nice lunch/ dinner spot. Make a reservation now at the Pelican Club restaurant on Exchange Place. Their Reveillon menu is one of the best in the city. Cohen & Sons on Royal has been in business since the 1800s and has a nice selection of antique arms. An all day plantation tour to the River Road plantations in Vacherie is enjoyable. Specifically, visit Laura and Oak Alley.

I was there over the Thanksgiving weekend and ate at Chef Brian Landry's restaurant, Borgne (pronounced Born.). It's in the Hyatt next to the dome. It was our best meal there. Make reservations now.

And most important, carry everywhere.

For clubs and music, check out the venues along Frenchman Avenue. Seems to have more of a friendly, local feel than Bourbon Street.

Just my two cents...

I think you should just stay home, too (considering the drinking comment).

If not however, there was a firm which helps with tours----you need an educated tour guide who can explain the city, its history, culture, and buildings, etc. Nawlins is probably the most interesting place in the U.S. Perhaps the Chamber of Crooks (I mean Commerce) can recommend them a real tour guide.

I was lucky and had a friend who lived there show me around, but, he wasn't that good at tour guiding, history and education----just drinking.

I must include that a friend of mine has driven there three times; each time his car was stolen. I flew; my friend put a bar on the steering wheel every time we used his car.

Have fun and be at hotel soon after dark.

Good area with many hotels is the wharehouse district. Fairly close to the dome, with good restaurants. Cab fares to dome or quarter won't break the bank, if your not comfortable walking. West of New Orleans there plenty of plantations to tour, along the river. Closer you have WWII museum, at the Audubon dey all ax for u! Definitely take a stroll through Roosevelt Hotel. Enjoy yourself!

The area wreaks of stale beer and sewage, there is a severe rat problem even in broad daylight. I love visiting New Orleans, but the area is wall to wall drunks and bars. I have never been to Edmond, OK, but the Big Easy may not be your cup of tea?

You forgot the smell of stale urine and vomit mixed with pinesol with that overlay of day old cigarette smoke:D

Back in the 80's I was walking on Poydras in the early morning on the way to a construction site and passed a body outline around a large blood stainn the sidewalk!
That same morning my wife was in the warehouse district on the way to her law firms building and saw a drunk bad mouthing a cop. First time she ever saw a night stick used for an attitude adjustment!
Nawlins was an interesting place, never a dull moment!
" Bet I know where you got them shoes!" 😝
