Picked up my 15-22 used from a friend.. the first time i shot it i put my trusty glendfield 60 up for sale! Im amazed by the accuracy and reliability of this gun.
I average 1/2" to 3/4" groups with it using fed 525 bulk hp's. I even burnt up all ny odd ball ammo i had tried in previous 22s i had and it ate everything i fed it incluiding rem gb's but had alot of fail to fires with the rems. And i think iv had one fail to fire out of 1200+ rounds of fed 525s

I dont have any fancy add ons on it since its my small game and target gun. I put a tasco pronghorn 3-9x32 scope in matte finish along with weaver extra high steel rings, also dremeled out the quad rail end cap so it wont change point of impact if i rest the front on something to stabilize

I do plan on changing out the butt stock for something nicer on the shoulder for prolong shooting, along with a universal bipod mount and tactical flashlight with pressure switch ( for coon hunting)...

Just wish it was a threaded model so i could put a fake suppressor or flash hider.. duu3xxx serial so no issues

If you don't want the expense of threading your barrel, you can get flash hiders that attach with set screws. Try the "True Shot Technology" website....flash hider for $24.00 (if my memory serves me right). Also fake suppressors are available and can be found with a little searching on your part!

So don't despair! What you want is already out there waiting for you!

Kind of hard to explain since im posting.off my.phone, but there is the roind cap that slides down the barrel and clips into the end of the foregrip/ quad rail i dremeled out the opening that the barrel goes threw so it dont put any pressure on the barrel if i rest the fore end on say a tree branch to stabilize my shot.
It shot almost a inch higher resting on it before i opened up the cap, now there is no change in point of impact now.

Also i seen the fake suppresors also seen one for none threaded that was like $12 a inch????... cheaper the better since its just for looks..


And no i didnt have to pry it from him, he used his."comfort money" on a down payment on a brand new motorcycle, 4 hours later he had to take his dog to the animal er.. they want first n last name, debt card, credit card and bank statement lol....
He posted it on his facebook i called him 5 minutes later, and a hour later it was in the trunk of my car.. he still has his dpms ar15, shot guns, hand guns and 1022 tacticalised..
He said i put more rounds threw the 15-22 in the 3 weeks iv owned it than he did year and a half or so he had it.. ( i live in the country so i tend to shoot every day after work)

You make a good point about the quad rail possibly moving the barrel when supported there. As I have a bipod on the very front of the mount, and use it for most shooting, I can see where that might bend the barrel up and raise point of impact.

Anyone else see this as a problem, or done something to eliminate it?

I normally shoot off a bipod all the time, i added a stud to my glenfield model 60 and mossberg 17hmr for my bipod, i learned the hard was with the 17 about pressure on the barrel effecting point of impact, infact it cost me a missed 45-50 pound male coyote at 2am this winter i had just rezeroed the scope that afternoon, i was hittin the bottoms of spent 12g shells at 50-100 and 140 yards.. missed what should have been a perfect head shot at 68 yards. Turns out i rested the barrel on my stand railing.. i recreated the shot the next morning and on cold bore was almost 2.5" high when normal cold bore was only 1" high

So ever since then i take all messures to make sure poi isnt effected

I read about people removing that piece i thought hmmm well it looks better on than off well just open it up so it dont touch the barrel

Anyone know how to remove the quad rail? And it doesn't require any support by the barrel to be strong enough, does it? How much clearance would be recommended?

Me too. So nice to be able to walk to my humble range and empty a couple of mags whenever I have a few minutes.
I often rest the barrel itself on something solid for support. Is this considered bad practice?

Yes and no. It will raise you poi higher..some dont care as its 'only a 22' but i my self.. owning a savage 223 and 17hmr i like consistency. I shot many groups that impressed me for a 22 using bulk ammo.
I started on 10" targets then dropped to 6" targets and now im shootin at 2" shoot n see targets. My first session on the 2" targets netted me 3 touching bullseye ( bullseye is the size of the tip of a 22 cartrage) and one flyer touching the edge of the target which could have been ammo related, trigger pull error or breathing error on my end.
I still have the stock trigger which im ok with but id prefer 2-2.5 lb pull.. my 17 hmr was 2lb my 223 was 2.5 and my glendfield mod 60 was about 3lb
