New PC Ported Core 9L

Picked up my new Performance Center Ported Core 9L at Cabela's last Thursday. Real good price after the sale price, Military discount, and another $175 off from cabela's bucks and cabela's gift cards.

Really like the feel and shoot much better compared to my 9C, and 9 Shield, but different guns, I know. I do believe the porting does what it's intended for, I certainly did feel as if I was back on target faster.

But, back on target was diminished as the ported barrel fouled out the front white DOT after several rounds. There's a reason I don't purchase guns with black front blade sight anymore; my eyes can't see them well. That was a shooting distracting and hindrance cleaning it constantly.

The other I issue is shooting 6 inches low, but dead center. Aiming 6 inches above target sucks! I don't have that issue with any other gun I own. Not a professional shooter, but do want to think my trigger control is good. I did have to work out the low left the 9C and shield (seems all M&P's) have! But the PC ported seems to take away the left wander away, or least I never experienced it in 200 rds yesterday.

I read other's are also reporting the low center hitting, I'll get it back out soon I hope, and see what happens! Elevating adjustment would have been nice, since it'll be a spell before I get an optic.



Any comments on the my low "out of box" hitting would be appreciated!

Well the front sight is obviously way too high. You could file it down or keep it stock and buy a Dawson replacement front. The irons are so darn high so they can "cowitness" through the red dot sight which people who buy CORE are expected to do. I don't care about that and took my irons off the gun.

I bought a Storm Lake non-ported barrel for mine so I can switch barrels according to the class I decide to shoot. My non-ported barrel is more accurate in my gun.

The irons are so darn high so they can "cowitness" through the red dot sight which people who buy CORE are expected to do. I don't care about that and took my irons off the gun.

Looked the Dawson site today, was the Tritium .160 height you replaced with? Never shot tritium night sites, are they bright in the day time?

Was also thinking about front fiber optic, but not sure how the fiber would hold up to hot gases from porting.

If you are not going to put on a red dot, the Dawson sights are the way to go. If you are going to put on a red dot, leave it the way it is. It is unlikely you will be switching back and forth. The porting might dust up a fiber optic sight. I can't say for sure. The tritium is not bright in the daylight unless there is some highlighting paint surrounding it.

Thanks for the info. I do plan on an optic later down the road. Will leave as is for now. I did see the ported shield came with fiber optic sights, but already a shield, and shoots great the way it is, i did appy green sight paint, and much better to see. May do the same with PC ported 9L

Are you covering your target with the front dot or is your dot below the bull?
I line up the dots on my M&P9 PC and cover the bull with the front dot and it's dead on.

Nice to know I'm not the only one. Just picked up my M&P 9 C.O.R.E PC 5" a week ago and I too noticed it was shooting 6" low, but also 6" left. I can fix the left by adjusting the windage but the low... had to modify my sight alignment. If I put the front white dot on the target and have it sitting above the two rear dots, then the point of impact is where the front white dot is. So my thoughts are to either use it that way, find a shorter front sight, or install a red dot. However in a land far far away (New Zealand) front sights for S&W are as rare as hen's teeth!

I have a Para USA 1911 with fiber optic front sight and shoot at an indoor range. My sight needs to be cleaned after each magazine (which is a real bother). Because of this I usually just use the front post this works quite well.

Put an optic on the gun and forget about investing in other sights. You can co-witness with the red dot and front sight.
A Burris FastFire3 is an inexpensive way to go. You can certainly spend more on an optic with more features....
