Okay, so i am buying another 15-22 in a few days, and i am looking to go through with my old idea. The idea is to cut off the "buffer tube" and to drill out the hole, then use an ar15 buffer tube tap to thread the hole. Then i can add whatever stock i choose, specifically the ace fixed stock with a nice milspec buffer tube. My only issue is that the end of the receiver is hollow, so now i need something to fill the hole with, in my opinion that will give it a better hold than simply threading into the plastic. If anybody can suggest a product to do just that i would very much appreciate it. Thanks

I had started a similar discussion a while back. I am sure the dimensions should work, if not that is where the epoxy or what ever else i use comes in.

Just curious which stock specifically you are thinking about using? Do you have a link to it?

I'm not sure that drilling and threading the plastic of the 15-22 lower to accept the buffer tube to will work well. The plastic around the buffer tube just won't hold up like the metal of a standard AR lower. I ended up getting an adapter made like the one in a youtube video is floating around out there somewhere. It sticks out an inch or so, but it feels solid. The pictures of the standard ar-15 polymer receivers I've seen at least look thicker or more reinforced around the buffer tube. I would guess that too much of a tweak to the side and the plastic would crack or stretch.


If you look up strobro32 and his folding stock build, he made a plug , pinned it in, and welded on the stock. Maybe you could do something similar, but weld on the ACE pig nose stock block?

I'm actually building an AR around an Omni polymer lower. From what i'v heard, they hold up just fine. I'm pretty sure they're made of a similar (if not identical) type of polymer.

I'll post a picture of the folding stock adapter I have tonight once I can get some pictures. I saw the LAW adapter but it was just too expensive. On the LAW Tactical page they have a warning about chinese knockoffs for airsoft, which are actually quite a bit less expensive. Might actually be a good fit for the 15-22 since it doesn't actually use the buffer and isn't subjected to centerfire forces.

O.D. is 1.513 in. Wall thickness on the sides is .183 in, or on top .109 in

So the OD of a buffer tube at the outside of the threads is 1-3/16" (1.1875") and at the inside of the threads (where you'd be measuring wall thickness) it is 1.145". So the 1.145+(2x.183) = 1.511", so the math checks out for the overall OD of 1.513 you measured.

My actual AR-15 is pretty close to that as well, 1.525" OD, .185" wall thickness. So it looks like between the polymer and metal they are about the same.

For the 15-22 there is a taper to the area where the buffer tube threads would be for the first .35" the 1" of depth that is there. That taper starts at a 1.290 OD and goes out to 1.500. A standard AR only has .5" of depth.

So a buffer tube should fit if the area is tapped correctly. I don't think there'd be much room for error in centering everything up.

This guy doesn't seem to be making them any more, but a decent gunsmith/machinist should be able to turn one out. I took a drawing and my 15-22 to a guy to see what he could do and he turned out something a little different. I have the 15-22 MOE version that has the sling mount at the rear of the receiver. He drilled that out put a small channel in the adapter with a bolt running through the sling mount area to hold it in place. There was a little bit of slop in the rotation of the adapter, so I put a pin in it like the one in the video. With the pin and the cross bolt it is pretty solid. The pin and the screw through the adapter like in the video would have been just as good, and would have allow me to keep the sling point. Oh well..

I got the UTG Model 47 folding stock adapter. It adds some length to the stock, but I had the stock extended most of the way before anyway. Now it's just a couple notches back.

The Law Tactical adapter was just too expensive. One of the airsoft knockoffs might work really well for the 15-22 though, I'm considering getting one like this: EbairSoft Airsoft parts & Tactical Gear - HM Folding Stock Adapter for M4 HM007
