Finally pulled the trigger on a new Python in the 4.25 inch barrel. The finish on the gun is beautiful and appears to be flawlessly executed. I ran about 100 rounds through it, mostly 38s but a few cylinders’ worth of 158 grain .357s also. Pleased to report the sights came out of the box dead center on, we’ll see how long that lasts with the now infamous loosey-goosey rear sight.
As has been noted by many others, the DA pull is quite impressive, much lighter than my high mileage Model 27-9 and even a bit lighter than my Model 19-3. SA is surprisingly heavy, but I rarely ever shoot in SA. I was disappointed to note that the edges of the trigger are uncomfortably sharp. So much so, I’m thinking of maybe trying some Talon Grip tape on it to try to remedy.
As the Python weighs-in at the same 42 ounces as my 4 inch Model 27 (third photo), I shot them side by side for comparison. The 27 definitely tames .357 recoil more effectively than the Python.
Overall, very happy with the purchase, with minor deductions for the rear sight (no surprise) and the sharp edges on the trigger.
