It allows licensed hunters to use noise suppressors while hunting certain birds and other wild game, including squirrels, rabbits and white-tailed deer. Opponents of the law have said quieter weapons aren't as safe and are easier to use illegally.

Why would some feel that suppressed fire arms are less safe?

This is good news, hopefully we will see more "common sense laws" like this in other states.

At tactical plate shoots in SE Ohio, I've seen suppressed rifle shooters holding 3" groups at 500 yards and further (this was unheard of accuracy in the early 80's). Being able to hit your target always makes gun liberals nervous! Ivan

It's the old mob movies where the hit man always had a suppressor (silencer). You know the one's that went pffft, pffft and the guy was out of bidness.

My favorite paragraph:

Provides that if a person who is not an Ohio resident and has a valid concealed handgun license from another state, regardless of whether the other state has entered into a reciprocity agreement with the Attorney General, and the person is temporarily in Ohio, that out-of-state license will be recognized in Ohio during the time that the person is temporarily in Ohio (R.C. 109.69(B)(3)).

Because they think that "silencers" mean the gun will be absolutely silent. This, to them, translates as people being murdered in their beds at night and the bad guy getting away because he'll be able to sneak out unnoticed.

Buckeye Firearms Association has a 6 part series titled :What HB 234 Means to You. This is the bill that brought about these changes. It is must reading for all Ohio residents that are gun owners. This group has been instrumental in many of the advances we have seen in Ohio. Typically you will see Linda Hamilton from this group present when the Governor signs into law theses advances. She also sits on NRA's board.

Here also is a link to the Attorney General's site where he has announced 5 new states (Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin, Georgia, and New Hampshire) that now honors Ohio's CHL because of provisions in this law. This brings the total to 28. You can also download Ohio's new CCW Manual.

Buckeyes are definitely moving in the right direction when it comes to gun owners rights for it's citizens and people who visit our state. I couldn't be prouder.

That's good news! Now on my yearly trip to Texas I don't have to worry about leaving my gun anywhere other than where it should be-- on my strong side.

EXACTLY! The same with the Italian Stiletto. Movies like "High School Confidential", "West Side Story" and "The Cross and Switchblade" made the knives illegal to own since the 50s. It's legal now in Texas to carry an automatic knife.

Ditto on the proudness, when I started shooting again and looking into the laws I got a big smile with every paragraph.

I like classes though, I did a 10 hour and found myself wanting more. Applying for the permit, appointments have to be made now you can't just walk in so mines on the 13th of this month.

Then I want to take more classes, just the little things you learn could save your life. Like don't hide behind a car. It works in the movies! Reality kicks in.

Don't be surprised if the anti-gun group likes this also. The more that carry, with les training, the more likely someone is going to blow away someone in a fit of rage. The anits can then say, 'See we told you so. Letting people carry guns is dangerous and the state is responsible.'
