Well this afternoon I took a casual glance at my local Academy store's flier at their "Black Friday" weekend sale and just couldn't resist the S&W model 642 for $369 PLUS a instant $50 Academy gift card AND of top of that the $50 rebate from S&W! The icing on the cake was I had $300 bux cash in my pocket from a buddy who just left my home to buy my old Beretta model 70 .22lr. pistol.

15 minutes later after showing them my Texas CHL (now LTC) I walked out the door with my new carry gun & $50 gift card only to return a moment later to use said gift card. Ended up buying a couple boxes of Hornady HBWC 148grs bullets so I could reload more target loads.

You guys think I did ok today?

I paid exactly the same price ($319) for a 442 last weekend. My guy has prices that make his competitors cry. So, if you walked into an Academy and got essentially the same deal, I think you're in good shape.

Well today I loaded up 100 148grs HBWC (2.5gr titegroup/1.18"coal) for use tomorrow at the range. I did remove the grips & put a couple drops of Rem oil up in the action & dry fired it a couple dozen times, wiped it down. when wiping it down I noticed the top side plate screw was noticeably loose, so I tightened it down using my wheeler screwdriver set. I checked the other screws & they're fine. I can't wait to shoot this thing. It's my new EDC

Nice deal. I just picked up a 638 for 329$ today and with the Smith rebate, it was a price I couldn't pass up. Like my 642 and 442 a bit better, but figured an ugly duckling 638 needs love too!:D

When you adopt a kitten from a shelter, you get instructions how to "kitten-proof" your home: remove or conceal objects that a kitten will mess with. With the 638, you must "638-proof" your home by removing all dimes on the premises. That way, a dime will not catch in the shroud behind the hammer...:D

Sorry, I had to mess with everybody's head. Had to.

Well today I put 100 rounds downrange and needless to say the revolver functioned beautifully. Had a combo of my reloaded 148grs wad cutter target loads, Remington 130grs FMJ's, Monarch 158grs JHP's, and Hornady American gunner 125grs XTP's. Got my hands all sooty, and a little sore on the base of my thumb from rubbing of the grip. Not a range gun, but reliable, fairly accurate. I was shooting at tin cans at 20-25 yards & IDPA targets at 3-5 yards, slow & rapid fire.

I have no complaints other than I'd like to see the trigger a few pounds lighter, which may smooth out in time since I shoot very often each week..

Just wanted to update that on the day of my purchase I uploaded the required info for the S&W rebate offer.

Today I got my $50 Master card in the mail...

That's quicker rebate response than I expected!

All I can say is based on my experiences. I have not had any problems or delays with rebates in all my years. Read the terms & conditions, follow the instructions to the letter, and stay within the time frame is all I can say.

Sweet!

So you are out of pocket $319 for a 642 and a rebate yet to come from S&W?

Yeah, you did OK.

Although I might have held onto the Beretta.

I sold a 38 yr old discontinued Beretta 22lr pistol for $275 that I put towards a new 642 on sale for $369 plus getting a $50 gift card out the door, PLUS $50 rebate from S&W that I got in the mail today. Yeah, I think I did alright! :p:p:p
