Hi,

i want to introduce myself a little bit.
My real name is Wilfried (Age 44) and I am living in Vienna, Austria. A week ago i got delivered an S&W 686 Target Champion from an German Dealer/Gunsmith wich made some little tuning on ist. He checked the timing and so and installed an trigger stop. Also the action was made a little bit better.

What i got is a very well Revolver, great finish, smoth action and an excellent precision. My new darling in my collection :-)
I forgot, it is my first Smith&Wesson Gun ever.

Best regards
Wilfried

The 686 was my first handgun and still my favorite. You're going to love it. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Welcome Wilfried. Excuse my Naivete, do you have laws as we do in the U.S.; especially California?

Glad you could join the forums.

Welcome from Kentucky Wilfried...good to have you on the forum.

Welcome from Texas Wilfried. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Always grand to have a new member of the S&W family join in from across the Eastern pond.

Hi,

i'dont know the law in California but yes, we have a law in Austria. It is very restrictive and complicated in detail.
So I will give you the "highlights".

You must be 21 Years old to get a license and pass a psychologic test...
There a two kinds of license, WBK (WaffenBesitzKarte) and WP (WaffenPass). With an WBK you can own two handguns or semi-automatic rifles. Full-auto ist forbidden and only for goverment and army. You can take your unloaded gun and go to an shooting range. Only with an WP ist is allowed to carry a loaded (hand)gun. Normaly this is only for VIP's or security people during worktime.
For a fee you can extend your card for two more places.
Any Gun must be registered! You have to fill out a register form by the dealer and the dealer forward it to the government.
As an owner of a license the police have the right to visit you at any time at home and control your handguns!

As you see its complicated, but the shooting sport have a long tradition in Austria. Many new (stupid) restrictions came from the bruessels buerocracy (EU). For an Example, Rifles are registert once as you buy them, now they want an registration database for all guns. So everybody has to register his guns a second time. This bring no more security but cost lot of money. Canada want to do so, but they see it is useless, so they left it. We in Austria will make this mistake for shure...

greetings

Welcome to the site from "Beautiful Downtown Monroe, Georgia, USA"!

I'm an old S&W shooter from way back. The 686 is a really fine revolver. You will enjoy it a lot.

Thanks for the information. We are slowly losing our "right to bear arms". So many shootings...so many law makers don't quite understand; disarming the victim(s) is not the answer.

Hope to see you in the forums.

Hello Wilfried and welcome to the forum. Your views on Austrian gun laws are interesting and appreciated. You have a very fine revolver.
