I know I've got like 2-3 threads in the first 2 pages but, I'm so giddy about getting into revolvers for some reason and have lots of questions haha.

Anyway, I was at my local funstore yesterday and noticed they had a new S&W Classic 27 with a 6.5" barrel. I asked to look at it and was fondling it thinking it would be much better in a 4" when I noticed it had NO internal lock on it. If you look on the S&W website at the revolver you can barely make out where it shows the internal lock.

IIRC it had the "new" S&W hammer but no lock.. meaning it didn't have the firing pin on the hammer or whatnot. Wonder if this is rare or a collectible.

If I stop by the store tomorrow I'll try and take some pics of it.

Meanwhile here's a pic of the one off S&W's website.

Hmm, my gun dealer tells me the gun I saw in the counter is actually a Performance Center 27 with no lock, but it did have the new style hammer. He's had it for quite awhile so I imagine it is not one of the new Classics.

If you did not already buy it or help someone else already to get it, and it is still there, I am a buyer of this model. E-mail sent.

John, I looked at a new Model 27 two days ago at the store and the top strap looked fine.

Thanks, and is it checkered like normal checkering, or are parts shallow or missing??

Asking because at least two new M27s have these issues with the top strap...

I don't think this 27 had an issue? It looked like perfect checkering to me.. maybe to fend off glare.. I don't know. Anyway someone emailed me and its now their gun so maybe they'll post pics for ya'll

As a collector of pre-lock .357 N frames when I read this post I recognized the revolver in question as a 27-7 and thanks to Vermillion was able to obtain it--well it should be here in a few days anyway. I'll learn to post pics on this site and share what the package reveals.

It is great to feel the quicken as one sees an object of desire.

Just to advise that it has been two weeks since I paid for it and I still have not received this .357. The wait is driving me crazy.

Finally have a moment to post a few pics for my 27-7 6-inch blue, thanks to Vermillion's lead above. I love these guns; PC, prelock, 8-shot, blue steel. NIB with a bit of shopware.

My intent was so keep this one factory mint and shot my first one which came with nothing, but the first one is nicer then this one-which has several tiny nick and light scratches, as on the crane in the 3rd pic, so this will be the shooter. I shoot my 8-shot 627 PC pre-lock and the thing is a tack driver, so I hope this one is the same. I am still seeking a four inch 27-7. I feel my life is incomplete without one. Or two.

Well said, cause this one will never wear a holster. To bad the so called "Classics" were not made lock free.
