I am 66 years old and just purchased my first hand gun. My son owns a 9mm semi-auto and asked me to buy a gun so we could shoot together. Up to that point I had not desired to spend money on a hand gun. Decided upon the Governor. Why? 1st because its a revolver. 2nd because is a jack of all trades. 3rd because big bore. Quite pleased with my choice.

This is the 1st time I have been this excited about a possession in many years if not decades. So excited that I have already gotten my wife's OK to purchase a 2nd gun. It will be the M&P Shield or the Springfield XDS, whichever I can get my hands on first.

Just wish there were more options as far as range shooting goes.

Can't find Shield or XDS in my area. Nano available but won't buy because of the FTE problems.

Just wanted to add that I am using the RIMZ moon clips and, for a casual shooter like me, I just love them. Effortless clip load/unload by hand.

Went shooting with my son who also owns a Mossberg 500 12 guage. Liked it so much that I got my own from Big 5 for $280. Exact same as my son's. Mossberg 500 12 guage with 18" and 28" barrels.

Went to the gun show alone. Not that much fun, although very interesting. Only saw 1 XDS and the vendor wanted $569, $20 over MSRP. When I remarked that I would wait until they got cheaper, he had the nerve to say emphatically "Oh no, they are not going to get cheaper". What a *******.

Well, all juiced up after seeing so many guns, had to go to my LGS. And what should I come across, but a Sig P250 2Sum for $540. Trigger was DAO, but boy was it light and smooth. May jump on this one. Speaking of triggers I am somewhat disappointed in my Governor. Took it to 2 gun stores and both measured over 8 lbs (as high as their scales would go). One fellow thought it felt like 12 lbs or heavier. Bummer.

Just got back from the range. This was my 4th time out. About 300+ rounds shot so far. Attached is my latest target. 12 shots (2 loads) taken at 33 feet from standing double-hand hold using double action trigger with Walmart Federal FMJ 45 auto. Actually there is 1 extra shot, shot 13 which was actually the 1st shot taken. I was trying to test the accuracy of the gun, so that shot was taken from a kneeling bench rest position with single action trigger. That shot is highlighted with the triangle pointing to it. That shot convinced me the gun was fine. Now if I could be just as fine. I am 66 years old with 20/30 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. I shot without my glasses since I only wear glasses for reading and computer work. When I sight the target, the rear site, front site, and target are all somewhat blury (with a shakey hand). See attached target.

Man, I am loving shooting. But 45 ammo costs are eating me up. So....just ordered Ruger SR22 from Kentucky Gun Co ($289). The cost of 22 shooting is so much cheaper. But I think the joy of shooting will still be there.

I am new to hand guns as of June this year. Having bought my Governor, I wanted my next gun to be a semi-auto. I know I don't want a big (long and heavy) semi-auto, and having been wowed by the latest fashion, I had plans of getting a Shield or XDS, whichever I could get my hands on first (at a price I am comfortable with). However, after some more thought, I think that the SD9 VE just might be the best choice for me. The only thing I don't like about the gun is the bi-tone color (but I can live with it). At any rate, I have time to ponder this since I won't be getting another gun until next year. Have to lasso-in some of my gun spending :o) BTW, I consider my yet to arrive SR22 as a way to shoot on the cheap, not as a true semi-auto defense that I would like to have. I needed a way to get my shooting costs down and have no desire for a rifle.

Love shooting my Governor but 45 ammo costs were hurting me. Decided to get a 22 and wanted a semi-auto my 2nd time around. Chose the SR22 because looks good, supposedly reliable, and right price. Went shooting the SR22 for the first time today. Both my son and I are quite taken with the gun. My son is now jealous. At first I was concerned. Had purchased 2 types of ammo, Federal lead and jacketed. 1st mag of Federal jacketed shot just fine. 2nd mag of Federal lead jammed. 3rd mag of Federal lead jammed. My son noticed slide not going all the way back. Stripped the gun and oiled it with some of my son's gun oil. Apparently, being new to autos, I didn't realize the importance of proper oiling. I had applied an oil/cleaner that was not appropriate. After my son properly oiled the gun, it was shoot-o-matic. We took turns shooting. I would shoot and while loading my mag he would shoot with the 2nd mag and then back to me. Boy did we blast away. No jams. 2 misfires (we blame the ammo) out of about 250+ rounds shooting both the Federal lead and Federal jacketed and some CCI mini-mags my son had purchased. My son loved being able to rapid fire, something he won't do with his 9mm because of ammo costs.
This little gun is meeting all my expectations and more. I might add that after I purchased the gun, I dry fired it and was concerned with the trigger. DA gritty, stacky, and overly heavy...SA somewhat the same but not as heavy. Nowhere as smooth as my Governor.
However, shooting the gun today was a joy. Shot in SA only and felt just great. After returning home and cleaning did some more dry firing and noticed that trigger is getting smoother and lighter.
I am sooooo glad I purchased the SR22 as my 2nd gun. As a matter of fact, I had designs for a 3rd gun, but now think it may be a long time before I will desire #3. I also think my Governor is now going to have to take a back seat to the SR22...it's just so fun to shoot.

Welcome to the forum. There is nothing like a father and son bonding while out shooting.

Welcome from your neighbor to the South in Salem...You got a good chance to find what you want at the Rose City Gun Show in Portland on Sept. 8 & 9.. If possible, go the 8th for the best selection and check out Northwest Armory at their table. Portland's biggest dealer...

Visited one of my LGS yesterday. They said the last Portland gun show had 5 XDS ranging from $500-$699. My son is busy during the 8th and 9th and won't be able to go. Debating whether I want to go alone. Probably not. BTW, going shooting with my son today. Years ago I made a PVC frame that my wife uses for a dog agility jump (the jump thru tire(fake) jump). I'm going to bring it along and use it as a target frame. Sitting here drinking my coffee comtemplating how much fun I'm going to have today :o)
