New Score! Model 28-2

My local gun shop let me know that they scored a BIG estate purchase. My name was on the list to be notified...good thing I went early because they were going like hotcakes!
4-digit serial number S&W Model 28-2...the wife said "Go for it! You'll never find another! 95%+ condition.

Every 28 that I've seen here in New England has had the checkering extend low like mine, with no diamonds. I have seen many photos where the checkering appears to end about 1/4" higher ...but still with no diamond. And, I'm far from any kind of expert...
How many grip variants are there?

I got mixed feelings on this.

Because I simply love the magnas.

And that is why I didn't "like" your post.

But I do like that 28 in it's original form.

I have smallish hands so the original grips are a bit uncomfortable for me...that's why I bought the Magna style.

I like both the magnas and the targets. They are both comfortable to me. But I like the look of the magnas better.

Now those rubber grips. I don't like much the look of them. But they are comfortable to shoot I have to admit.

There's lookin good and there's business. I agree the Pachs are nothing to look at but serve their purpose well.

My 28-2 has a 4-digit serial number beginning with an N. Is it a 1969 or a 1970 build?

The SCSW basically says N1 - N99999 were from 69-72. Not exact, but maybe assume 1969. Great find for you, though.

I think the original ones look too small. My brother put the pachmayrs on it years ago - they worked way better for rabbit hunting that the original stocks did.

I don't think the pachmayrs are very attractive but they are more functional for me.
