Hello everyone ^^

I recently purchased my first handgun, SD9VE.

I never owned a handgun before and I have bunch of questions that you guys might be able to help me out with.

1. How far is stock sight zero'd in at?
2. My slide fails to lock back after firing the last shot sometimes. I believe it could be the magazine issue. Is this a known problem? Any solution you guys can suggest me?
3. Is it true that weight of flashlight can reduce muzzle flip?

most handguns are factory zero'd at 25yds. most likely the magazine being new and stiff if it keeps up try a new mag. yes it can but better to practice grip than too depend on a mechanical advantage too control recoil as you may not always have the light on the gun. hope that helps and remember range time is the best thing you can add too a new gun!! have fun!

2. Are you sure you aren't riding the slide stop with your thumb? Load a few rounds in the magazine and fire left handed only and see if this still happens.

3. I put quite a few rounds downrange with my TLR-1s equipped SD9VE. I would say it moderately reduces muzzle climb and only slightly reduces recoil.
Even the WML equipped SD9VE is not as enjoyable to shoot recoil wise IMHO as a metal framed SIG, Beretta, S&W or CZ.
As a side note, my SD9VE has been 100% reliable with TLR-1s attached.

Your post suggests you are having trouble controlling recoil possibly by not knowing how to properly grip your first handgun. An SD9 is a mild recoiling gun, but you still need a proper grip to control flip and facilitate proper operation.
Most guys resent suggestions to take a class from a qualified instructor, but the truth is none of us are born knowing how to shoot a handgun, and you can save a lot of time and ammo with good lessons.

Based on me, I think the last shot hold open failure is probably because you're not holding the gun firmly enough. I had that problem at first after switching from a heavier gun. It's also a problem with the Glock 19 which is almost identical in size and weight.

I had the same problem with last round not holding the slide open. A forum member suggested, as was said above, thumb touching the slide will cause it to close. I corrected my grip and the problem went away.

The SDs are a great value for a first gun.

I don't think they have particularly bad muzzle flip, at least in 9mm, but a front mounted light would probably balance the front a bit.

The slide not always locking seems common. Mine never did it, even when brand new. My Shield did however on it's first magazine.

I wouldn't worry unless it starts doing it all the time.
