I bought a 9mm Shield,my first semi-automatic.Always carried a revolver so,any suggestions on switching over? The slide is rather stiff(I've only shot 15 rounds thru it).Not real confident with it yet but I really enjoyed shooting it.

Welcome to the Forum! The Shield does have a very stiff slide that can be hard to rack. From what I've read the only solution is to put a bunch of rounds through it. They say it starts loosening up around four or five hundred rounds. I've got a ways to go on mine.

Congratulations on your new Shield.

I was considering either a Shield or MP 9c last May. Ended up with the 9c because I couldn't find a Shield. Still difficult as I hear.

Later, I added a Bodyguard 380 for those times when it was difficult to adequately conceal the 9c. A Shield might have avoided the issue.

All small semi-autos have stiff slides. They need a stronger recoil spring to operate the slide because it has less mass. That's just the nature of a small gun.

By user name, woman?

Use your left hand to hold the slide close to yourself and push away with ur right if that helps to rack it.
Easier to rack and ur gun should be pointed in the general target area after it is racked.

That is my take in ur question

Please correct me if im wrong.

Correct answer.
Easier to hold the slide and push the gun. There are some videos on you tube that show several ways to grip slide. Most popular seems to be grip with your off hand with thumb facing your body, then pushing the pistol away from you.

Leave the slide locked back. That will cause compression on the recoil springs, and they will lose some tension. However don't expect this to cause the springs to lose much more than one pound of pressure, over a long period of time.

Or you can increase your muscle strength. Place your hands palm to palm, about one foot in front of your chest. Push your hands together as hard as you can, and hold for 5 seconds. Relax for ten seconds and repeat until you have done this ten times. Do this two or three time a day. In a few weeks you will be amazed how easy it is to cycle the slide.

Thanks, the one I tested at the gun store was not at all stiff. That's one of the reasons I bought it.

Both of those are very good pieces of advice, thank you. A semi is just so different from a revolver but I love my Shield.
