NEW SETUP FOR THIS WEEK, LOL

It's a DPMS 5 1/2'' slip-over flash suppressor (threaded). I bought it directly from DPMS web site. Midway and others also sell them. It's steel and weighty. When ordering be aware there is an identical looking flash suppressor that does not slip over the barrel.

Belt-fed: Wont you loose you cheek weld with you secondary optic mounted on the left side of the rifle? It would seem awkward to tilt the rifle into the body imo.

well i saw a few race guns setup that way and a couple of swat guys training that had a set of open sights bent over like that so i thought id give it a try.. work pretty dang great everyone that has run it has liked it cause its so quick to transition from 1 to the other.. ill let phil run it next weekend and he can give it a review.. i think it much easier than trying to role yourself across the gun for your secondaries

First question are you right or left handed? I've seen this config used before and it was done on the far side. It was a competition shooter's rig and he showed it in action. I believe I found the link on an ar forum and I'm sorry I didn't bookmark. Just turn the rifle so the ejection port faces up for right handers and down for lefties.

Brett you need to move to TN... we could have some fun

Brett,

Trust me the thought has been crossing my mind to leave PA behind.. I'm stuck in a dead end IT job for a company who treats me like a turd and there isn't much other good work around here in my field. And I am getting sick of winters....

I've spent all but 2 years of my life here in this town. Lived in Pensacola FL for 2 years as a kid (hated Pensacola) loved Daytona!

My Mother's hubby wants to move to Texas and he's trying to talk me into it!

...how about ordering some eye and ear protection.....not my business, but...

Brett,
I know what you mean by winters. Here in Cal it rain this winter for like 8 or 9 days and dropped to like 40 degrees for a day or two!!!

So you can maintain a cheek weld and just pull the gun in a bit? It makes sense in the fact for a right handed shooter your left eye is almost on that sight when your welded to your scope. And should take less movement of the gun to get the secondary on target.
Ill give it a try next time i have time at a range.
Range time is killing me in Ohio, Hurry up May so i can use the DNR range for $25 a year and upto 100 yards ranges.

I think the other thing to consider is that these aren't sniper rifles.. I know everyone is gun ho about cheek weld and repeatability etc.. But in a situation where you need to go from the scope to a CQB targeting sight, your more than likely to change more than just your cheek weld, your stance is also going to change so isn't cheek weld really moot?

I honestly don't even see the cheek weld being so critical even on a real AR unless you are firmly planted laying on the ground in prone and laying down long range fire.. But isn't there a better rifle for that task? Like the Remmy 700?

Its just about accuracy and repeatability to me and switching targets at will, All for fun of course.
Ive found a good cheek weld a big help while shooting off a bench. While standing even more so as the gun is shifted less and not taken off target as far while switching.
In reality its all unnecessary, But does make shooting the gun enjoyable.
While standing tho i find almost a necessity to be accurate.

Do you run a sling? Do you do the sling around the arm to tighten down into a braced triangle? I agree it's all about repeatability and it's all for fun. I can see these drills being great for hardening our repeatability which can then carry over to other weapons of the same platform and there are certainly longer range AR's out there...

Well as usual I must be using mine for something other than its intent:D... I do tac coarses with my m&p and I run a mkII slabside as my secondary.. so 85 percent of my shots r around 30 yrds and the targets are as big as a basket ball.. I use my secondary optics for those.. the targets that r 40+ yds away and the size of a baseball I role my primary optics up take a better stance and make them count... I don't like loosing points because my optics weren't made to engage targets that far away.. the only sling I run is a single point.. just so I can drop my primary weapon and grab my seconday at that point in the coarse
