New Shield 40 owner

I have been a die-hard Sig Sauer owner, but was impressed when I was recently shown the Shield. I sold my P239 Two-Tone because I wanted a pistol I could carry in a pocket of my cargo shorts, my 5-11 Tactical carry shirt or any other place where space was short (my new car was a minuscule center console).I was looking at the XDs 45 (pulled from shelves due to recall), Sig 938 (felt extremely odd in my hand and overall uncomfortable to hold/handle), Sig 290 (considered until I held it-felt cheap) and Glock 30S (Even with LE request- unable to get my hands on one).
As soon as I held the Shield- it felt right. Not too big, Not too small.
I got a decent price on the Shield ($419 OTD) and I have already made myself familiar with the available upgrades/mods. I ordered the Talon Grips and now I am looking at different options in night-sites. I have the Tru-Glo FTO front on my Sig 229 with Sig/Trijicon rears. I love the bright front site but considering the purpose of the Shield- maybe I'm overdoing it.
I joined this forum today and was pleased to see the quality of the Threads and responses.

I put a 10-8 brass bead (.160H, .125W) front sight on mine. As soon as the 10-8 rear for the shield becomes available again, I'll replace the rear. I'm not a fan of the white dots.

After polishing all the metal to metal surfaces in the trigger mechanism you will love how smooth this gun will be...

Welcome to the Forum and welcome to the best concealed carry pistol on the market. Imo. The M&P Shield is well made (aka Smith & Wesson) and the .40 S&W is the perfect size for CC.

I was too recently new to the forum and a Shield 40. It is by far the best concealed carry weapon I've had my hands on. I added a Crimson Trace Laserguard to it but so far it's otherwise stock. You will be very pleased with this firearm!

They aren’t your average sights and have a different sight alignment setup, but it only takes a few rounds down range to realize how fast you can be on target for CCC.
I don’t take range pictures because this is my off duty CC and my course of fire is strictly close range fire for affect practice.
I strongly recommend the Apex trigger kit for this gun due to the overwhelming improvement in the all around feel of the trigger pull and reset after installation… Don’t get me wrong, the stock trigger is fine but you’ll love it even more after this kit and lightly polishing any metal to metal surfaces prior to reassembly…

Took it to the range for the first time on Friday. Felt great and no FTF or FTE. I did have to stop on my way home and buy the UpLula magazine loader because after 200 rds- my thumb is killing me. And of course when I got home- my Talon Grips were in the mailbox. Damn! Now I have to go shooting again this Friday.

I have the Shield 40, and almost exclusively pocket carry. There is another option available to you. Buy a stock 9mm barrel and have a 2 in 1 gun for about $80.

Everyone talks about buying a stock 9mm barrel. Great idea, but where can you find one? Guns and Gear is always out of stock.

I doubt anyone currently will find any supplier that has a constant supply of barrels. I suggest to try searching often some of the bigger companies, like Brownells, Midway USA, etc. Guns and Gear is where I got my barrel, but they are a little guy. They do seem to get a quantity of barrels, but not on a constant basis. The bigger guys are more likely to get a larger supply, but then they will have more people checking their sites for the barrels. See if Guns and Gear Outlet (413 786-0100) will put you on a waiting list?? I have also used Midways "email notification" for some not in stock items. It works great, but you have to check your email often, as the items sell out fast.
