Welcome to the Shield owners family, and to the forum. I asked myself why I waited so long almost two years ago. Water under the bridge now. Enjoy!
 
My first plastic gun was SW990L and a Shield followed almost immediately. Apex trigger and night sights will be ready next week. (But I still really, really like my 39's, 59's and my little 908.)
 
First WELCOME to the forums and Thank you for your service!

I have had my 9mm Shield a few months now and amazed how smooth it shoots for a small pistol! I added the Talon Grip Tape and that made it better for me :)
 
I purchased my 9mm Shield about six weeks ago. Being a new shooter, I took the orientation class at the local range. Didn't take long to realize that I made the right choice. Just installed the new Talon rubber grips and can't wait to get back to the range.
 
Welcome to the forum. Welcome to the Shield "Club". Mine is a no thumb safety model in 9mm.
 
Never to late to discover this little gem of a gun. Better late than never. Welcome to the party.
 
Mine is the no safety version as well. Waiting on my CCL from IL so I just carry at home. Still a little apprehensive about the no safety, carrying Condition 0.
 
I have the no safety version in 9mm. I installed the Apex duty carry trigger and a set of AmeriGlo Pro I dot night sights. This is a great combo for me and an excellent carry gun. I enjoy shooting this very accurate gun...
 
I own many handguns and have found the Shield in a kydex holster is the perfect handgun for me as a concealed carry weapon...I just put the 200 rounds of mixed ammo through the Shield and not one hiccup...
 
Add me to the new M&P 9 Shield owner's club. I bought my no-safety Shield two days ago and promptly brought it to my local range and blasted off 100 or so rounds. I removed a Hogue slip-on grip from another gun and installed it on the Shield then off to the range I went. It really felt good in my hand and will be a great carry piece. I was shooting 124 and 147 grain copper plated bullets with various powders and like all my 9mm's, I got best results with N340 and N350 loads. I'll probably go with Hornady 124XTP's with N340 as my carry load.

I have an assortment of 'carry' guns and was looking for an affordable (for me) gun under 6.5" inches OAL in 9mm and found it in this Shield. I had to compromise in magazine capacity as I prefer at least 10+1. I could not justify spending the bigger bucks for a G26 or other similar sized gun with higher capacity.

Does S&W have replacement RSAs available for sale yet? Both of ours have been in the safe for months.

No Manual Safety/ No Worry

Consider almost all LE carried 38 Spl. revolvers for nearly a hundred years. They had no manual safety because the double action trigger was the safety. Your Shield has a double action trigger. All of my pistols have the same manual of arms__point and pull the trigger. Train all you want but you're apt to NOT activate a manual safety if really in a stressful situation. Been there a few times. I know a lot of owners want a lighter trigger. These are SD small pistols, not range guns. I have two Shields and for me the stock trigger is fine.
My Sig P320 Compact has a 6 lb. (exactly trigger) and I wouldn't want one any lighter.

Really? I thought it was striker fire. I agree with the stock trigger it is fine for me too, and like you said these are not range guns, but fun to shoot.

Contact S&W customer service! I did by e mail and received my RSA a week or 2 ago!
 
I just became a new Shield 9mm owner today, too!! I test fired the .40 model and loved the feel of it but went with 9mm (no safety) for cheaper and more available ammo. Gonna put 100 rnds thru it tomorrow. Can't wait!!

I have had my Shield since they came out. I have never had a problem with the safety. I just do not use it and it has never been a problem. My 02
 
I just made arrangements with my LGS to trade in my no-safety one for a safety model. Even if I eventually make the move to carrying with the safety off, I still have the option. I had some time with the safety and everything felt smooth releasing the safety as I draw.
As I've been told (and most everyone else) "Train the way you carry" and if I keep up the practice with releasing the safety it should become reflex at each draw.
I did notice the safety was much easier to release then to engage so I'm not worried about inadvertently engaging it.
Time will tell. I just want to be comfortable in my carry choice.
 
These are nice pistols and this is an excellent forum. I picked up a new Shield 9mm 3 weeks ago. It's been to the range 3 times, 350 rounds. It is easier to use each time. Talon rubber grips installed. Trijicon night sights in the mail. At 500 rounds I may give it to my wife to carry and buy another.
 
I just took delivery from my FFL of a new M&P 9 Shield with no safety today. After completing all the required paperwork, I promptly went into the range and put 25 rounds of 115r FMJ, 25 rounds of 124 gr FMJ, and 25 rounds of 124 gr JHP. No problems at all.

Plan to field strip and make another trip to the range tomorrow.

One question - Are the sights adjustable at all? It looks like the rear sight are fixed but the front sight appears to be adjustable. The reason I ask is that at 25 and 30 feet, all the rounds were hitting low and to the left (around 7 - 8 o'clock).

I was shooting the same, low and left 7 to 8 o'clock. I'm not an experienced shooter at all and this gun is much smaller than my usual range gun. But after 200 rounds I started hitting much closer to the center at 20'-25'. I considered moving the front sight, but decided to give the gun some more time to break in. I'm still shooting left consistently, but not low anymore. I would be interested in how your range time tomorrow goes.
