New Shield Plus on the way

Picked up my new Shield Plus today. Very impressed with it so far. Very accurate. Very similar in size to my other shield with 8 round mag with extension. Grip slightly bigger. The texture on the grip is much better then the 2.0 in my opinion, not nearly as rough. Really like the new trigger. Now to find some 13 round magazines, nowhere to be found.

I know that I for one would be interested in your thoughts comparison wise between the plus and max 9. When I find a pro model max 9, I'll be buying that as well.

Well if it wasn't for the trigger in the Plus it would be a tough decision between the two. The two triggers are night and day. The Max-9 has a smooth trigger but is very very long before the break, similar to the Security 9 or LC9S. The Plus trigger is like some aftermarket trigger company like Overwatch Precision or Apex Tactical made it. There is no comparison between the two triggers. When I dry-fired the Plus I was completely shocked and then looked at the sales guy and he was nodding his head and his eyes were saying 'yeah I know'.

As for aesthetics and ergonomics both felt and looked good. (Again) if it wasn't for the triggers I personally probably would pick the Max-9. It offers an optics cut and the std Plus doesn't. Both had the manual safeties and both were easily manipulated. The grip on Max-9 felt very similar in size to the Hellcat. The Plus was a bit more hand filling, it appears that it's close in width but longer from front to back. If the grip on the Hellcat and P365 is too small in diameter for someone (like my buddy) then the Plus may be just enough to get you into this "micro subcompact" category. Its grip from front to back feels similar in length to my XD-S mod.2 (9mm).

The sights I would give to the Max-9. It has a black metal serrated rear and bright fiber optic w/Tritium front. The Plus is just three white dots (but at least they're metal).

Both are nice, just going to depend on the things mentioned above. I own a Hellcat already and wish it had a trigger like the Plus but to me it's better than the Max-9's. Hope this helps.

Im really interested to see how the cerakote that they put on the frame of the Shield Plus holds up.

Yeah wish they wouldn't have done that. While I like Cerakote I think that layer over the texture is causing the grip to feel a bit more slick. One of the utubers vid said S&W did that to give it a darker black appearance. That may be true but while I was playing with it the LGS also had a new Shield 2.0 and I could feel the difference. The Shield 2.0 texture had better bite.

Like two steps forward and one step back???

So picked up the new shield this morning at Bass Pro. Was there when they opened the doors and the guy working there was announcing we have no ammo, was funny.

When I picked up the pistol a few things happened. While doing the paper work I asked about 9mm ammo. He said we have some in the back I can sell you since your buying the pistol. I asked how many boxes could I buy and what would the price. The price was $14.99 for Remington 9mm. I have a lot of 9mm so I just bought two boxes. He said they had a lot of 9mm in the back but were directed to only sell it to folks buying pistols.

Also they opened a pistol range up in the store. It was to the side of the gun counter, it was previously the archery range, but they built it up and got a new air filtration system built and it just opened last week. But it is $20.00 an hour, crazy. I was going to shoot my new shield but I needed to get back to work.

The pistol. The Shield Plus feels and looks like the exact same size as a normal shield, it is really weird. They finally got the texture correct. It is the 2.0 texture that is not so rough it will rub your body raw. I got the manual safety version that does NOT come with night sights. I thought that was strange. If I got the one without the safety I could have factory night sights.

But the sights are the exact same as other Shields so easy to find the sights I want. Trijicon HDs yellow fronts are my Glock and 1911 go to sights. The current sights are metal three dots.

The pistol fits in all M&P Shield holsters, so no worries there.

Another improvement, the magazine release button, is a little larger and slightly angled, easier to get to and hit but does not stick out so much it would get hit accidentally.

Comes with a 13 rd mag (think Sig 365 with 12 round mag and then the pistols are very close to the same size. It also comes with a 10 rd mag as well.

Now the best part, finally Smith and Wesson came out with a great trigger. The hinge trigger and other M&P Shield triggers were never good and everyone always went to an Apex or some other after market. I never understood why you buy a pistol and then have to replace the trigger to make it decent. I guess that is why I'm spoiled on 1911s.

I'm not a flat trigger fan at all, but this one works great. Very little pre-travel and breaks nicely.

Just need to get it to the range and shoot it to see how it does.

Trigger Happy

Thank you for keeping us Updated about your new S&W Shield Plus.

It's amazing how well a person can shoot with a nice Trigger.

Also I like the idea that the Plus is the same size as the old
Shield.

Thanks for the Purchase Report and Picture.

I happened to be at the farm store when they brought out 2 new shield pluses. Was never temped by the standard shield as the grip just did not feel right in my hand. Held the PC version and I could actually see the sights so it came home with me. I've shot about 270 rounds of various types and not one problem. Great accuracy, nice trigger, felt great in the hand and a definite upgrade from the old M60 I have been carrying. Love the 60 but can't hardly see the sights anymore. As far as a holster I had an leather holster for a Glock 26 I no longer have and the shield fit perfect except the grip felt like sand paper on my muffin top. Found an old pancake holster I had back in the 90s and it fit nice no sandpaper feel. Will wear it around tomorrow and see how it does. So far S&W seems to have hit it out the park with the plus.

Same here! I hate Cerakote on any gun, but on the S&W Shield Plus i do wonder hoe soon it will wear off and it may look weird?

I just hope the entire frame under the Cerakote is Black since i remember some yrs. back Keltec offered some models in any color U wanted but the frame was white and then Cerakoted and with any use U ended having a white frame with the Cerakoted color in patches!
