OK so Between rifles and pistols I probably have 6-7 M&P pistols. So I bought a new SHIELD X. Started off having problems with the 15 round magazine. Read the 15 rounders could be troublesome. Smith sent me a new magazine. I have 4 15 rounders magazines and 1 13 round magazine. None are dropping free, locking the magazine back, and a long vertical scratch is appearing on the magazines where it locks up to the frame. So sent it back to Smith.
They had it 2-3 weeks then sent it back to me. Said it was in “in spec” and no problems. So I made a video of it not releasing the mags and sent it back to customer service. Had a friend that is a gunsmith look at it. He said the problem was the magazine release was out of spec. Sent a message to them with the video and the gunsmiths explanation of what was wrong.
To be blunt got a snarky response back from the contact person saying it was “in spec” and no problems! She offered to replace all the magazines. Look every mag hanging up and getting a vertical scratch where it latches into the frame. And won’t drop free isn’t an “in spec” firearm. Got nowhere with her. So I called Smith and got a helpful young man.
He understood and said I could send it back. Or he would send me the magazine release assembly.
I asked him to just send me the assembly. He said I would be put on a waiting list to get one. So it appears there are a ton of bad mag releases on the X. My mag release is polymer. Read they replaced it with a metal one. Don’t know how long before I can get the replacement part. Besides using some light sandpaper on the present release. Does anyone know if anyone is making a replacement release for the X. Or one that will fit it.
