I just have an old GI M1 cotton web sling on mine. Works great for carrying, using hasty sling, or if you really want to, you can strap in as well.

I bought one of the M-1 Garand web slings for $17. Looks like new production but very well made with good parking. I fit it to my old Sport and liked it well enough I ordered a second one for my Sport 2.

After some trial and error, i took the J hook off of the sling on the Sport as it really isn't needed for the butt stock.

Waiting to get mine next week, I have had two since the early 70's and got rid of both, just couldn't get into them since i had just got home from over there. I swore iI would never get another one but you know how that goes and this one I will keep, price was great, rifle, case, and mag loader for less than 500 how could you say no.

The bayonet lug is part of just about every front sight casting. On 16" carbines the barrel ahead of the sight is too long to accept a bayonet, which was one reason for M4s having 14.5" barrels. Still, it's there and for many considered an essential "UP YOURS!" feature to annoy gun-grabbers.

We are both right. Myself, in that the 16" barrel ahead of the sight on a carbine-length gas system is too long to accept a GI bayo (and one reason the military shortened the barrel to 14.5), and you in that there is an adapter to allow the bayonet to be attached
