Hopefully this is the right place for this. It seems like here is the best fit.

I need a new steel target setup. I got one of these spinners a few years back. It has served me well - but I've shot up the frame and it is barely holding together.

I'm thinking of getting target stand brackets that'll work with rebar - something along the lines of The Last Stand. I don't know if I'm keen on those per se. But they seem pretty good.

I also found these on Amazon:

I figured I just get one or a few plates - I'm not sure exactly of sizes. But be that as it may - I think I'm concluding they should be 3/8" min and AR500 steel. I'm also thinking I'd hang them using chains from the crossbar. I'll be hitting it mostly with .223 @ 100yds and 9mm/.38 Spcl at some closer distance - 30 ft or so.

Any words of wisdom? I want something that compacts well and is easy to carry out to 100yds in one trip - as I go to a club and don't like being "that guy" that causes the range to stay cold for extended periods of time.

Thanks.

Target Stands

Hey that rebar setup looks nice. Looks easy to setup and cheap to get several setup.

A few years ago I bought Arntzen targets and stands. Arntzen Targets

They were expensive but they are made like a tank I have got several thousand pistol rounds on them, a little paint and they look new.

That rebar setup looks easy and cheap.

Dan :)

Just want to give you a big thumbs up, for not wanting to be "that guy" at the range.
Now, if we can just decrease the number of "those guys" who like to pick up brass, while I'm still shooting in my lane/table. I think range visits will be even better.

These are available on Amazon,,,
if they keep the grass cut,,, setup is simply dropping it!! :D

I have two,,, a rimfire will not "flip" the large one shown in this pic.

If you have enough ammo,,, drop it at 50 yards,, and "walk" it out to 100 yards!!

That looks like fun but there ain't a snowball chance in my part of So. Florida I could make it dance.

This system seems to be the easiest to set up. The plate is reactive and has a good sound. Hang Fast Targets

Not being bolted to a bracket allows the plate to swing and enhances the sound. Hanging loosely by a chain makes this target very interesting. This target is being shot with 12 ga. slugs @ 25 yards

Hang Fast Targets.

I have a couple sets of these brackets that allow me to use lightweight and inexpensive 1" EMT conduit for both the legs and crossbar.

The EMT conduit is lighter, and stiffer than rebar and will still take a bullet and not fail.

I use one set with 4' legs and either a 2' of 4' cross bar as a portable stand. It carries well with just a loop of 550 cord with two slip knot loops slipped over the bundle of tubing. An other piece of 550 cord can be used to tie the two brackets together on the cross tube so they don't fall out while you are carrying it.

Slinging the bundle of tubing (and brackets) over one shoulder and the steel plate over the other allows for good portability even if it's a 1000 yard walk.

The brackets and EMT tubing will easily support 1/2" AR500 steel and I often use it with the full size ISPC silhouette as well as a 10" steel plate hung on the 4' tube at the same time for long range rifle shooting.

I have another one permanently set up with an 8 ft cross bar and three steel targets. I adjust the legs from 4' to 8' depending on how high the corn or beans happen to be. With 8' legs and and 8' cross bar it gets little shaky unless you use tie downs to stabilize it on each end, but it's rock solid with 4' legs.

The more hangers, chain, legs, brackets etc are exposed the more likely you will have a target failure. Everyone knows that whatever is downrange CAN get hit by a bullet... and probably will !

Personally, I like the looks of these...

Both use conduit, which is cheap, easy to get, easy to cut to length, and nice and lightweight to carry. Hard to beat that combination.

I thought I'd follow up / close this out / offer a range report.

I went with the rebar stand frames from JC Steel. They came with the black strap and bolt you see in the pic. They were out of the plate size I wanted - so I bought the one you see off of Amazon. I think the setup as you see it cost $70 or so - and adding a plate of a different size will be a piece of cake.

I had it out to the range for the first time tonight. I shot it at 40' with 9mm and .38 Spcl. The frame was rock solid. (Those are 4' rebar lengths for the legs and 3' for the crossbar.) Setup is one of those tasks where you wish you had a 3rd hand. But it's no big deal. I may wrap some duct tape around the rebar ends or something to provide some friction when they enter the frame. Then I could set up it and carry it without the legs falling out.

Overall it's a great solution. Shooting steel is blast.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Exactly.

Why conveyor belting is far superior to any chain set up. The belting can take hundreds of rds and still hold up even heavy plates.
