I had an old gun passed down to me from a family member some years back and I have been wondering what the age of the gun is.

It has a embled stamped on the right side of the gun and also in the wooden grips there is a brass s&w emblem. It has pattened dates on the top of the barrel 1914 and 38 S & W special CTG on the side. The serial number is 269467 no letters and fixed sights. Anyone have a clue how I can find out how old this is?

Thanks.

First, welcome to the Forum. You will find very knowledgeable people here.

In answer to your question, you probably have a S&W Military and Police model that dates from (my best guess) around 1917. The only way to tell for sure would be to send off for a factory authenticating letter.

Looking forward to seeing more of you here!

John
