Found a mint condition S&W 10-7 2" 38 special blued, orig wooden grips, that has Peruvian police stamp on the left side. Amazingly it has zero holster wear, just used down there for extorting money from citizens?

It is not pinned, serial number is aev7xxx on the bottom of the butt (frame). The crane , attached to the cylinder, has c18 then 28xxx.

Under the crane the only thing is mod10-7 (on the frame).

Would I assume the crane and cylinder were replaced at some point? Bluing matches perfectly.

Certainly seems worth the $385 I paid. Like I said, not a hint of holster wear, even at the tip of the barrel. Sharp lettering, not a reblue. I will post photos later.

So is the 1980 or so?

Does the Peruvian history help or hurt the value?

My guess, and that's all I'll offer up, is that this revolver never left the states but was part of a batch destined for Peru but which never got there.

Thanks for the idea. That would explain the lack of holster wear.

Here are some photos.

Nice find! I think you can rest assured that your grips and crane are original. The numbers on them are just assembly numbers and will not match the serial number on the butt.

These were an overrun that were sold stateside. Regardless of the history, $385 is a great price for a very nice revolver. Enjoy!!

How did it get the Peruvian stamp, if it never went to Peru?
I'm confused.
Did Smith actually have a stamp made with the Peruvian police logo and stamp it as part of the Mfg process?
I'm guessing they did, since the Peruvian Popo stamping is blued, like the rest of the gun.

Nice snub K, BTW. I'd love to have one.
Still on the lookout.
Damn J, K, L, N frames are habit forming.

My 10-7 is 1979.

Thanks for the info! My first S&W snubbie. It will join the Colt stable of snubbies that seem to have been accumulating in my safe over the past 8 years.

If that is indeed the case, I'm surprised that S&W didn't install plain sideplates.
Here's what SCSW has to say (page 176):
" Peruvian Police: model 10-7; Peruvian police crest stamped on the sideplate, 2" barrel, round butt, blue finish, smooth trigger. Marked "Policia de investigaciones del Peru". Product code 100101, AEV9xxx, 1984."

If it left the country and was reimported (repatriated), it would have an importers stamp somewhere on the frame and/or barrel per BATF import regs. Some are very small and well hidden.

There was a thread earlier this year with a copy of an ad for these guns when Smith released a bunch to dealers for sale here in the US. I have one of these too, unfired. They are usually very reasonable to buy, and are really cool little snubbys.

Here is an excerpt from the posting I was talking about. It is from February 2013, and you can find it by searching for Peru.

"I just bought one from a local gun shop and in the box was a add for the model 10 and model 37 . The model 10 the add said that they made 1,964 units and the model 37 290 units . the add also says that Smith&Wesson would make them available through some dealers . It also says that this police organization is equivalent to our FBI . It also said that these would probably be the last S&w to have this seal on them.I believe that they where an over run or Smith&Wesson made to sale to collectors .I will see if I can scan the add and post it. The dealer told me that the gun I bought had been in a safe . It looks like it has."

He posted the ad too, but I couldn't copy it.

Thanks. I will try searching for the ad. Appreciate the info! Would have been nice to get the original box with it. Oh well. can't have everything.

Well that is USUALLY the case if they were imported, and sold, by someone like Century Arms. They MUST import stamp....BUT if they were imported by S&W as a trade for newer guns they would not have import stamps.
Example is all the Model 10-5's with 3" heavy barrels that S&W sold, and reimported, from Victoria Australia. They were all beat to heck but function fine and have no import stamps.

And my 10-5 3" from down under is my favorite handgun of all I own. No import mark as S&W took them back in trade for semi autos.

Amen to that. I got tired worrying about the finish, my 3" 10-5 is my car gun, so I had it duracoated. I think it is a PERFECT car gun. SB, 3" barrel lets you get some serious +P+ ammo loads going.
