Nope, that's no typo. Thanks to forum member ClayFlingyThingy I scooped a 242 from a shop down his way. I took a bit of a chance and bought it sight unseen, but I think it worked out quite well. Looks like the proverbial "carried lots, shot little". A few scrapes and a small ding, but overall very good condition. I'll be ordering a holster in the next week or so, and I'm already looking for new grips and considering replacing the front sight blade with a tritium dot. (Anyone have suggestions on that?)

Nice find. This is one of the guns I wish S&W would have made more of.

Nice catch, I was in line behind you. How much did you end up giving for it?

I picked up a LNIB Colt 1991A1 .38 Super from a shop in NJ for $500 a month or so ago thanks to a poster on another forum.

I ended up on the right side of four bills... :-D

I put a Fiber optic sight in a 242 years ago..
Not too hard since I'd done a few others..
Look for a sight for a 342Ti..
Also note that a 686+ speedloaders worked well with the 7 shot 242..

The 242 & 296 are the only L Frame Centennials ever made..
They are very cool & kinda hard to find..
Congrats!!

That didn't come from a little shop in Kentucky did it?

I don't know how "little" since I only talked to them on the phone, but yes, it did ... MG&A...

RevolverKing - Ashley turned into XS Sights, and knowing that fits makes me very happy. Thanks! Who did your moonclip conversion?

Wanna see something weird? Pop it open and see if yours has this little burred up spot in it. Did Mike give you the box and lock too?

I bought that same gun from him last year, and it just didn't fit my needs (was bigger than I wanted to carry). I traded it back to him on a new deer rifle, and a buncha ammo. It had the box and lock when I traded it back.

That scar (I think) is where some previous owner before me spun the cylinder a bunch and slapped it shut. Neat to see it go to a forum member!

Falling into the category of "small world"... Yep, that's it!

No box or lock, which would have been nice but certainly aren't critical to me. I wonder if it moved through another set of hands between us? There's a small ding in the underlug near the muzzle, did it have that when you owned it? :)

Yep, that was there when I bought it. The box wasn't in the greatest of shape when I got it, but it was origional which was nice. Mike said he was going to take it home with him when I traded it back. You may want to call him and see if he still has it. I bet he's got it in a drawer somewhere!

I have the same gun and love it, cant beat the size and fire power in such a light weight gun, congrats on your find.
