Finally got it home and made a few pictures. This is a model 25 that was converted to a 44 magnum with a 3 inch barrel, by an unknown gunsmith and as far as I can tell the smith did a nice job. Built in 1980 I think. The only issue I have found is the cylinder/barrel gap is only .003. Not sure if that will cause a problem unless the end of the cylinder gets really dirty. Please share your thoughts on this. Have yet to shoot it but looking forward to it. I also changed out the Pachmayr's that came on it to a set of Hogue's that I had laying around.

Thanks guys. Also the serial number is N6406xx and the previous owner said it was built in 1980. Can anyone verify the approximate date of manufacture?
Thanks

Well after changing the Pachmayr grips that came on my new to me 25/29 to a pair of Hogue finger groove grips that I had and handling it for a week or so, I was not really happy with the way the Hogues felt in my hand. So last night I changed them back to the Pachmayrs and I am much happier with the feel of the Pachmayrs. Then looking at it more closely I have to say I think I like the way it looks better with the Pachmayrs. Then I have to consider the padding that the Pachmayrs give on the back-strap that the Hogues do not have. I have to say for me that I have to stay with the Pachmayrs. Of course it always looks much better with factory wood stocks than any rubber stocks that I have seen. What do you guys like best? Pachmayr or Hogue?

The first consideration for any serious use firearm is how well YOU can shoot it when it is equipped in any given manner. What looks right on a safe queen in the view of a collector fetishist is not a relevant consideration. If this revolver shoots better for you with the Pachmayrs (no shock in a short barreled .44 Magnum), then that is the right choice.

Those Pachmayr Presentation grips look better than the Hogue grips. Have you shot it with the Pachs yet?

I replaced the OEM wood grips on my 29-10 with an older pair of Pachmayr Presentation grips and it made it much more pleasant to shoot full power .44 Magnum loads.

Appears to be a nice, tight little conversion. If it shoots for you, that is all that matters. For re-sale, I see no light. But, you built it for yourself.
Nice job. Best

I have not shot it with the Pachmayr's yet but will in the next week or so.
