Just picked up this 6" 29-2 this morning. Got it from a friend of a friend. Been working on the deal for a week. S&W 4th edition dates it to 1980. I really hoped it would be a 1970s gun. The owner said it probably had one box of ammo through it. I believe him. As usual the liner in presentation box is breaking down. But it came with the tools still in sealed plastic bag and all the paperwork, which is a-lot. It even came with a very nice Bianchi basket weave holster and a box of ammo. As you can see the ammo was definitely bought in 1980. Any blemishes on finish are just finger prints and oil.

Thanks. Yes the stocks were a bonus. Looking at pics that were sent to me they looked pretty average. Even blah lol.

I think the title says it all, those pinned and recessed guns could be iffy at the end, but looks like you've got a very fine weapon there, that will see you through the end of your lifetime if you take care of it?? an Heirloom, so to speak. billy

It is no different than any other M29-2 that was made in the previous ten years, so in essence you do have a 1970's gun. It's beautiful, the stocks have especially nice color. Good score.

When was the last time you saw a box of .44 magnum for $7.50?

What does the inside of the case look like?

Inside of the case has lost all its blue lining. I've already reached out to a forum member about possibly restoring it. I threw a pic of holster as well.

Yes I understand what you're saying. But I already have 2 629s from early 80s. I just wanted this one to be older. Just me being weird I guess lol.

I bet Joe could restore the case liner.

The holster looks like a Bianchi 5BHL. I have one that looks just like it. I bought that one in 1979.

Very nice 29-2. I looked long for the same gun. Easy to find -2's with 6 1/2" barrels but the 6" proved difficult for me. Got mine at Tulsa show about 10 years ago, no box, just the gun. I've put probably 5000 rounds through it and it's not going anywhere.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Dan

Yep that's exactly what it is. That and the ammo were a bonus. I wasn't expecting it. I know it's not a huge money gun. And I don't have any safe queens (except maybe 1 Colt). But I'm not sure I want to shoot it much.

I know the feeling. All but two of my S&W revolvers are from the 1960's and 1970's. The other two are from 1980 and 1981 and it sounds a lot newer, but they still have the same features. I'm good with anything pre-1982, I look for the P&R features and not interested in any that don't have it.

Dan, who is Joe? What is his username? He may be the member I contacted. I got info from an older thread about the case liners.

Dan is talking about Forum member and case restoration guru Joe Cebull, aka jcelect. Joe is very easy to work with, and he does excellent work for a fair price. He's refurbished several cases for me over the years. Congratulations on acquiring a very nice Model 29-2 with mahogany presentation case and goodies. The holster and ammo is a plus! Lots of us .44 Magnum and Model 29 fans here on the Forum. My 6" nickel revolver also dates to 1980. Enjoy!

When i finally do get one . The first thing i am doing is plug in Dirty Harry and sitting on the couch with my 29 on my lap ..And if i have consumed enough caffeine i will follow up with Magnum Force lol.
Congrats man , nice purchase

Thanks, Joe is the man I contacted. He just replied today. So I'll have to talk with him and set it up.

That looks like my first S&W . bought in 1980. It was used for about $400.
The box on mine was different ,it didn't have the compartment for the tools.

That's a nice 29-2 you got.
