Back after a long hiatus...not a good year but moving forward....
I usually dont jump at anything besides wheel guns but this followed me home....because of it's history, pretty sure it toured SE Asia fifty years ago....has had some use for sure but I like it alot....everyone here knows when a gun 'speaks' to you and this one did......
#69981 im guessing early sixties but if anyone can date it, that would be great....
It has an aluminum frame...
Anything I need to look out for, give special attention to? Long extractor etc.....
I have read they are not drop safe...I dont plan to use it for CC...
Feels great in my hands, anxious to move some lead......tnx all..
Disclaimer...I havent cleaned it up yet...

I understand completely. I was browsing my LPS (local pawn shop) seeking out S&W revolvers, when I spied a really clean 39-2 at a pretty good price. I couldn't stop myself from saying "I'll take it." either. But I doubt mine has much history.

Love to hear what the history of your is. Congratulations!

If you shoot it a lot, they have been known to break the long extractor. Until recently there were impossible to find, but Jack First is now making them. $70 each and need fitting.

Aren't the 39's great guns, I now have 2 and looking at another this weekend at an auction.

Thanks for the info... cleaned it up today, well takn care of on the inside...carried alot....
The history is really only a personal thing but to make a long story short it did two tours in Nam with a helo pilot in the late sixties, he's not doing so well now, Im glad I have the pistol..I also have his old Norton Commando I am restoring...
I thought it was important these didnt just go away....
Norton's almost done....gun's gettin shot.....

Norton looks great! Most of the ones I saw in the past had a yellow tank. I recall when they came out with the high rider with taller bars. Yep I been around a while.

This gun is from the era that included steel frames. Does your 39 have a steel frame?

It looks like you got a great Mod 39 No dash. I like guns with history, they may not be mint anymore, but they have a story to tell instead.

Enjoy shooting your Model 39.
