New to me: 432PD

I just bought two S&W 432PD revolvers. According to the serial numbers, S&W customer service told me they were made in 2006 and 2008. They are in excellent condition.

I have done some reading online and an internal lock was mentioned for some versions. Can anyone tell me more about these internal locks? I do not see obvious locks on my revolvers but am not sure where to look. I presume there would a keyhole but I don't see one. Did certain years get the locks?

If your guns have locks you will see the "keyhole" directly above the thumbpiece on the left side of the revolver.

Thank you M29. I just checked and do not see any keyholes above the thumb grip. Why would they make some with and some without these locks? just wondering.

The hole above the cylinder release is the lock.

This is a 431PD and a 432PD, you will note the small hole just above the thumb release. That is the internal lock. You can usually ignore it, I have never picked up the key or gotten it near the gun. It has caused no problems for me. I am a fan of the 32 H&R Mag. and load them using the Hornady 100 gr XTP.

Here are pics of my 432PD. It came with crimson trace laser built in to the grip. This one is for my wife.

The second 432PD is identical except it did not have the laser. I gave that one to my daughter for protection.

I do see the small keyhole now. Since they didn't come with keys, I guess I won't worry about the locks.

If anyone else has information about the 432PD's (or 431 or 332 or 331). I would love to hear from you.

431 PD

I have the 431PD, and it came with the CT laser but I prefer the UM grips, especially when shooting Buffalo Bore! A very cool 32 mag and 3 choices in ammo (short, long, & mag)!

I have a 431 that came from a limited batch produced in 2016. It's an awesome little J frame. It will be going to my daughter for concealed carry. She loves the low recoil of .32 Long for training, plus the added capacity of six shots. Critical Defense makes a decent .32 Mag self-defense load, but I sure do like the Buffalo Bore! Recoil is comparable to .38 +P but manageable. I have only seen the .32 Mag numbers published by Buffalo Bore, but would suspect the increased velocity of .32 Mag over .38 Special short barrel loads would lend itself to better bullet expansion. (1050 fps vs. 900 fps).

431Pd is the same as your 432Pd except for the exposed hammer.

Call S&W customer service and ask them to send you a key for the internal lockl

Welcome to the Forum. The 432PD was my first J-frame, and the beginning of my J-frame addiction. If the internal lock bothers you, a Forum member makes a plug that you can install after removing the internal lock. I had earmarked my 432 to go to my daughter after she receives her LTC (License To Carry), but she's tiny, and neither of us are big fans of off-body carry, so she'll get my Beretta Tomcat instead. As Kingspoke mentioned earlier, not only can you shoot .32 H&R Magnum ammo from your 432, but you can also shoot .32 Short and .32 Long ammo. I checked with the factory, and if your 432 will chamber it, you can also safely shoot .32ACP out of it in a pinch - no bets on accuracy, though.

It appears that you have Crimson Trace LG-305 laser grips on one of your 432s. They are bigger, and a bit more comfortable than the LG-405 grips I have on all of my Air Weight J-frames, but the LG-405 is a boot grip style (the bottom of the grip is even with the bottom of the grip frame), which makes it more concealable. If recoil with your 432s becomes a problem, look to the LG-405 as a good possible remedy as it has an air chamber along the backstrap that compresses under recoil. HKS makes speed loaders for the 432, but quite frankly, I find speed strips are easier and faster to use and carry.

Old Cop-.32 h&r is available, you may have to order online. You can practice for less $$ with .32long. Georgia Arms makes a nice JHP that runs about $26/50.

The .32 long is available relatively inexpensive, and can be reloaded for pennies. Loaded to about 900 fps it makes a good practice load for the 32 mag that goes out of the short barrel about 1050.

I bought my daughter a S&W 331ti several years ago. It didn't suit her at all.

I made a minor modification and her accuracy and attitude improved.

I find my ammo online without too much trouble. Cabela's usually runs a sale on the .32 Long, and my best pricing on Buffalo Bore has been through Academy Sports. They frequently run a "free shipping for orders over $25" which includes ammo.

The hardest thing to find is an actual 431PD or 432PD for sale. Impressed and jealous the O/P lucked in to not just one but two!

Old cop, .32 H&R mag is plentiful here now but dried up four or five years ago. I was fortunate enough to find a pile of ammo in a NC gun shop and bought it all.
