Hi all, my latest GB toy; a not-so-pristine 629-1 that dates to 1983. Grips shockingly match with a 1983 date stamp, clearly a transition period between the football cutout and the speed loader relief cut. It's got some scratches, mostly surface nicks but a couple deep ones. Lockup seems reasonably solid, it's definitely not new but no signs of abuse. Heavy double action trigger, single action is very light and crisp.

Initially, it came with the ejector rod backed out. The cylinder was stuck in the closed position. Adjusted and hit it with locktite, no issues now.

I bought it for shooting mostly .44 specials and light .44 mags (I reload) and it'll make a nice companion to my 686-2. I haven't seen many four-inchers and thought it would make a decent walking-through-the-woods "anti-hog" device….

Beautiful, and the cylinder rod issue is more common than most think. Had a model 66 in 1975 in the police academy lock up because of the cylinder rod, tightened it, and never had an issue again, for several thousand rounds, then ended up with a 686. Enjoy your 629.

The 4"er is still a hole in my collection. I have the 3", 6" & 8 3/8" dash 1s. It sounds like you'll be shooting that one often. Great catch!
