I just bought what I have been wanting for years a Smith 639 with the square trigger guard and adjustable sights. Pistol came with an old Bianchi leather hip holster, probably as old as the gun. Stripped it down and I don't think it been shot much, but never cleaned!
Can't wait to get it to the range tomorrow.
Serial# TBM 1119, can anyone tell me date of manufacture? Thanks.

Congratulations fellow Georgian!

I have a 639 in the same configuration with serial number TAS92 - you will enjoy shooting that all steel 9mm -

Pictures available?

Thanks, I have read alot about these pistols and I recall reading somewhere that the later models ( maybe mine )
were not as good as the earlier round trigger guard models.
Anything to that?

Great find, best of luck and enjoy one of the best 9 mm's ever made. Be sure to post some pics when you do the range report.

Some don't care for the square trigger guard (or adjustable sights for that matter) - really it's a matter of asthetics.

If one is going to accumulate (i.e. collect) 2nd and 3rd generations, sooner or later a square trigger guard pistol will find its way into the safe as some like the 3904/06 were never made with anything but the square trigger guard.

You have an outstanding classic Smith semi-auto...........enjoy and hang on to it.

I never could afford one of these back then when it was new and I used to lust after them................But I have one now!
I remember how jealous I was when my brother bought his 745 ispc model NIB!

S&W 639 Stainless Steel is a classic, mine is from 1984 nd still doing good!

It was my first gun and IMO the safest...

After almost 30 years with me it is going to be at sale soon to be able to get a shield or compact 9mm...

My favorite pistol (although I am starting to like the feel of my new to me 659). I have the odd extraction issue, but it's a pleasure to shoot.

Your going to LOVE IT!!!
