New to me M & P variety

I have purchased an M&P .38 special, it has an original 2" barell. It is stamped with a BNP on each chamber. It has grips that appear to be from a 60's K-38. I have not seen any images online that identify this piece. It still has the original lanyard ring. All the serial numbers match. Where can I find more information about this specific piece.

The BNP stands for 'Birmingham Nitro Proof'. Sounds like what you have is a WW2 S&W Victory Model lend-lease British revolver in which someone lopped 2 or 3 inches off the barrel. I'll bet there isn't an underlug anymore is there? Odds are that they also reamed the .38 S&W cylinder out to accept .38 Special ammo. If this is the case, brass is likely to swell when fired due to the oversised chambers. Sadly, many of these were treated this way when they were shipped back across the pond in the '60s. The importers thought it would make them more desirable.

Like cgt4570 says, it does sound like a WW2 vintage S&W.

A serial number, and a couple of pictures
would be of great help.

There are some two-inch factory .38's from the
WW2 era. If its right, it will have the
lug under the barrel. Even then, that may not
be the way the gun was originally shipped.
