Ok guy's/gal's

I have not had a S&W M&P for a long time, very long. Always love the M&P but always looking for the next best thing. I have been carrying the Sig P365. I have been wanting another M&P because I really missed having one and wanted the full size for home defensive weapon in 45. I went to my LGS on Saturday to pick up a revolver that I had on layaway and they have had this M&P45 in the case for at least a month so I checked it out and bought it also.

Thought it was well priced at $450 used (no box but did have two magazines) no scratches or wear on the outside and when gotten home little wear as for the slide rails paint wear only. Barrel has no paint wear at all. So really in excellent shape. It has night sights (still very bright)that have the M&P stamped on the rear sight. S&W said it was produced in June 2017. It has the 4.6" barrel which I really like. But with no box and paperwork with it can anyone tell me what model M&P this is and if there is anything I should know about this model ? It came with the medium back strap so I ordered the small back strap for it.

Thanks for any info or help given, really Love the feel of this M&P and waiting on the small back strap before I even take it out and shoot it.

I photo might help . M&P has had night sights on some models over the years as an option and on LE handguns . I have a 11 years old 40sw version that really shows no wear except for some holster scuffing and the normal scuff marks on the barrel but still all black and it has closer to 12,000 fired ! Wish I could help more buy my 45's are 1911's but we have m&p going back 11 or 12 years .

Is it a 1.0 or 2.0?

I'm guessing 1.0 since the 2.0 were released in 2017 but the .45 came later.

As hardluk1 suggests, a picture would help.

1.0s have the extended beaver tail and the round S&W logo on the grip.

2.0s have the trimmed beavertail and a square M&P logo on the grip.

Mine is a 2.0 built June of 2017. Definitely 2.0 so it must be one of the first ones made.

I will try and get pictures this weekend

Thanks for that link. It at least allowed me to find this model which I believe to be the correct model.

But I do not believe it to be a Law Enforcement trade in. My LGS is in a very very small country town and I have never seen a Law Enforcement trade in on their shelves as of yet. There is absolutely no wear on this pistol anywhere and not even a scratch. So that also leads me to think that. Unless a law officer bought it personally and just set it back, but it did not come with box. So again it might be. I don't know if civilians could purchase this model or not. But I do believe that you assisted me in finding the model.

There's generally no reason why a "civilian" can't buy an LE handgun. Typically, it's a matter of price with the LE SKUs having a significant discount for qualified professionals.

The "standard" M&P. 45 comes with contrast sights. It's possible the PO installed night sites. The "LE" model came with night sights and 3 mags. Otherwise there's really no difference.

LGS and distributors sometimes overstock certain models. At some point they just sell them to anyone as long as it is in compliance with law and their agreement with the manufacturer. Sometimes even departments may maintain inventory but never issue the handgun and eventually surplus/return them. Those guns usually have the box and accessories.

Anyway, whether or not, your handgun originated as an LE, the link shows the specs. Whether it's the original SKU may remain a mystery.

I have written before about the security company I worked for and their M&P 40's. They were ordered with Trijicon night sights. When we switched to the FN 509 we turned in all our M&P's to the home office in Dallas. Some were pretty worn and others were never issued. I kept the boxes and all contents in my office. When we changed guns I was no longer in charge. All guns were literally thrown in one box and shipped. The boxes were shipped seperately and were never reunited to the proper gun. The only markings were the company logo on the top of the slide. When sold online they were advertised as law enforcement turn ins.

Guy's thanks for all the comments and help. I should be able to get pictures of her this weekend. Shot her yesterday and she is a fine running machine. 0 problems. Received my small grip in the mail today. That smaller back strap means the world above the medium for comfort to me. I am in Love with this pistol, so happy to have an M&P again. So glad I bought the 45 also.

I bought a 4.6" M2.0 in 45 about 4 years ago. I was amazed, I think it's softer shooting than any of my 1911's.

Keep an eye out for sales on used magazines. I ordered 5 used 10 rounders some time ago. All were in great condition and all function like they are supposed to. Think they were around 15 or 17 bucks apiece.

Natchez shows used 10 round mags in stock for $14.99. I got some from them a few years ago and they were all good.
