Just bought a M46 to supplement my 3 M41's.
Near MIB with box, papers, and original bbl. weight.
Devil made me do it. Needed one for my S&W collection.
Anyone have a close ship date for# 73407?
I will ask Dr. Jinks when my week is up. Thanks, Big Larry

1966 or so is my guess. There were 200 guns in this SN range sold to the US Coast Guard.
I have seen two M46's that went to the US Army and they were marked US, best I can remember. They had been in an Army lockup for years, but not forgotten. They were recalled and destroyed. DUH !!! Thanks, Big Larry

Hello larry, good snag. Only have one left. Not a military gun. Sn. 23855,
shipped August 31, 1960 to H.H.Harris in Chicago. Has a 7" barrel and one of ten like guns. Two mags and numbered box. I have a copy of the invoice indicating the princely sum of $52.25! Heck, I cant even buy a mag for that much. Go shoot and clean. Enjoy.

I have a couple guns shipped to HH Harris. Must have been a big distributor. Not sure I will letter this, but I did get a surprise when I lettered my M41 EFS. Went to a Treasury Agent. A M19 in the same shipment, went to another Agent. Thanks, Big Larry

In a nut shell the S&W Model 46 was a lower grade version of the Model 41. The '46 didn't have the high polish blueing, nor the walnut grips, but rather had a sort of matte blueing and plastic grips. Otherwise I believe they were basically the same guns.

Big Larry,

Model 46 #73080 was shipped in March 1965
Model 46 #73441 was shipped in June 1965
Most likely yours dates to this period but Dr. Jinks will give you the ship date when you get to post the question to him.

What length barrel came with your model 46?

7" with bbl. weight. I saw a few of these for sale and they all had problems. This one is fairly complete. Just missing its tools.
My buddy is coming over next week to show this computer illiterate how to post pics. it's been snowing pretty hard here and he could not make it this week.
Easier to post pics on the other S&W site. Rugers site too. For some reason I cannot do it here. I used to have a host posting site and did post pics here, but they went out of business. Thanks, Big Larry
