New guy here. I just picked up an old four screw 4" model 18 at our annual easter gun show. Finish is worn as it was carried lots by an ex trapper, but used little. Bore is excellent, and it locks up very tightly. S/N is K357xxx. Any idea on date of birth?

Thanks,

Frosty

It was made in 1959 according to the book. They are great revolvers and a blast to shoot. It didn't happen if we don't get to pictures though.

Welcome to the forum. Your .22 Combat Masterpiece was born in 1959.

Nice gun! But it might be a little light to scare off all those polar bears that will be invading lower latitudes once the last of the arctic ice pack has melted. :D

Welcome to the forum from Southern California, where I seem to run into a good percentage of the Canadian population every winter. When you can, please post photos of your newest score. There are diehard fans of the K-frame .22 revolvers in all barrel lengths here.

Here is a picture of a 4 screw 18 I picked up a few years ago, just in case you guys forgot what they look like. Its actually from the same time frame as the OP's gun.

There's not any Mink or Martin or White winter Fox hair wedged in yours. Maybe you could lend it to a trapper for a trip to the bush. Nope I wouldn't either, very beautiful gun thanks for sharing.

Pics will have to wait. Up here we can't just pay and take it home. Have to wait for the gubmint to "approve" the transfer of ownership. Never mind all the others I already own. You guys don't have the market cornered on stupid gun laws.

John,

Very Sweet !!!!!

Here's a decendant of yours. This one was born in the early 80s. They are great shooters and very handy. Mine really likes WW PowerPoints and most anything Federal.

Good Luck!

Very nice revolvers guy's! I'd love to have one of those, but I don't have prohib ststus, here in Canada. I once had lots of handguns with 4in. barrel or less, but sold them all. Then new ruling came in for prohib status and was Screwed. Now I can only have 6 inch+. barrel handguns. Kick myself every day.

badbrass, you can get some of the new offerings with the 4.2" barrels (from the other guys), or get a 6" shortened to 4.25"

Cross-threading here from the .455 conversation, but where did you find your Model 18 at the Easter Show?

Looking forward to seeing photos.

Well, it took a long time finding its way home, but finally here it is. It has a lot of character, but is mechanically sound. Should be a good shooter. Can't wait for our foul weather to clear so I can take it for a test drive!

Very nice looking gun with a lot of character, Frosty. Question on the grips: to me they look like they have the sharp upper corners which is typical earlier editions (like up to around 1950). Do the grips number to the gun? Here's my pre-18 (sn K2475xx; est.1955 mfg'd); notice that the tops of the grips are a bit more rounded than yours:

Just curious about those grips. I must admit that I prefer the 6" 17's and pre-17's to the 4" 18's. Not sure why; probably 'cause we can still get the 4" editions down here. -S2

Speedo2, the grips are not numbered to the gun. I'm not worried as I bought it as a shooter. Only paid $345CDN shipped.
