New to me model 65

A friend called me up and asked if I am still interested in the 3" model 65 that I've bugged him about for over a year. I said may be if the price is right. He told me the price and I said, "when can I get it"?

It started out as a 65, and he performed a very nice double action trigger job, bobbed the hammer, lightly chamferred the cylinder, checkered the back strap and had Cerakote finish applied over the stainless steel.

The DA pull is very smooth and light. The gun points well and even better balanced than my 2.5" 66. It came with an Uncle Mike's grips.

Sweet! Not crazy about the color, (I like plain old black ) but I like that better than shiny stainless.

Great gun and photos. I have a 3" 13 that I will not part with. I carry both revolvers and autos but I do love a practical real world six gun. Thanks for the post.

The first thing I would do is buff that cerakote off of it, that does not look good in my opinion. If you like it, that's cool. It's your gun.

Yeah, the lighting makes it look gray. It's not sexy or pretty like polished blued, but like I said previously, it's a tool and not a safe queen.

Yea, but it doesnt get any easier to clean than a stainless gun. Just a little hoppes or ballistol on a rag and you're done. No worrying about scratches or rust, frecking, etc as long as you at least put some sort of oil, lube or wax on it every once in a while.

Huh? How can you get any less maintenance than stainless? Trust me, that porous finish is going to give you clean up problems.

You've got a nice revolver, however I prefer my 3" 65 stainless with a hammer spur. They are great carry guns.

Nice pick up on the gun. I don't know anything about the finish. I took my hammer spur off with a bench grinder years ago and have never looked back.

Spurless revolvers look ugly to me, and I believe the hype of "that spur will snag and get you killed" is internet myth. If you're really that worried about it, either train to place your thumb on the hammer or carry a centenial.

So how does it shoot?

Here is the 7 yard groups.

The 10 and 15 yard groups were fist sized and the poa/poi is dead on. Bust the caps every time. I'm happy with it.

Very nice revolver! I've not read to much about the 3" K-frames. I gather they are popular. Yours looks like it would be a good choice for carry, etc., just about anything one would need to do with a revolver. I understand S&W once produced a matte black finished S.S. 686. Your 65 with the Cerakote finish would I think be about the same thing. I like it. That is the finish I have on my RIA 1911. It has done very well. The additional features you describe on your 65 I can understand. Personally I've always liked nice checkering on a grip better than simple serrated grooves. From the pictures shown you not only have a very nice revolver, but you have a revolver that you can shoot very effectively. Cool!
