I recently bought a S&W 625 JM .45ACP, 5". While not new to revolvers, I have a few, I have always wanted a revolver in .45ACP. Well I was looking to buy a new carry gun but came across an ad for the 625 JM in great condition and purchased it. Should have it next week.

Is there anything in particular I need to know about this model? And does anyone CCW one? If so what kind of holster do you use?

Really looking forward to getting it. Ordered 100 moon clips and I already have a moonclip removal tool I bought and used for my 327.

Test your SD ammo. The one I had would have light hammer strikes on Winchester white box. I shot it better with the JM grips then houge grips. Everyone is different. You'll love this gun.

I've used the 625 JM in ICORE and IPSC for the last 4 or 5 years.
The 625 will load a lot easier if you get the cylinder chamfered. If you can locate a completive revolver shooter, he will be able to direct you to someone who can do the job
It really isn't much, just removing the sharp 90 deg edge around each chamber. You won't be able to visually see it but it will make a big difference in loading

Also 230 gr round nose will load much easier than 210 gr SWCs

In carry holsters, I found that Pancakes work better for heavy guns. They spread the weight out better
The best I've found is the Dillon Leather by Mitch Rosen item number 161-18826 for $75 to be a great choice

Grips are another story and a touchy subject at that. The best by far is the Eagle O/S Rosewood Target Grips . These are smooth with a Bisley look to them
O/S Rosewood Target Grips For S&W N Frame - Eagle Grips Inc.

I can send pictures of gun. grips and holster if you want a look

Thanks everyone for the replies, and thanks Falguy for the informative post. I will look into the holster you mentioned. I will try out the stock grips before changing them. I like the looks of them but will know more once I feel it.

I plan to mostly shoot WWB 230gr stuff, so hopefully I will not have any light strikes.

I've never experienced a light strike with my 625JM and with a myriad of different ammos. Mine's a fun gun to shoot and very, very accurate. Congratulations on your purchase!

If/when you get tired of working with metal moonclips, here's an idea. Get some polycarbonate clips from RIMZ. I have them: the bullets and spent casings easily snap into and out of them without the need for a special tool. They do tend to wear out, but not all that frequently, and shooting the gun without having to demoon has been a real treat.

I really like my Altamont round to square conversion grips on my 4" 610, which is very much like your 625.

For carry, not range use, I like a good set of combats.
They print less and the smooth texture lets my shirts slide over them without gripping and riding up.
For range I like Pachmayr grippers or compacs.
I think you are going to end up loving the 625.
