Hello,
I am new here and wanted to share a model 28-2 I just purchased. I was planning on attending a gun show this weekend to scout for one. I was caught between a 4" and 6" and didn't know which I truly wanted. After selling some guns quicker than expected I ended up going to Cabelas to see if they had one. On their gun library the cheapest one I saw was $759 in Rapid City, SD.
I told myself if the local Cabelas had one, no matter barrel length, for that same price I would buy it and be done.
I browsed the cases and spotted a 4" 28-2. Tagged at $699. Even better than I expected. I ask an attendant if I could see it. After looking it over it was dirty, but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up and made looking good again. So I asked him if he would be willing to knock $50 off the price tag. Well, I tried, and before I could finish my sentence he interrupted and said best he could do is 10% off. Which equated to $70 off rather than the $50 I was in the process of asking for. Even better! I tell him I will take it.
That night I decided to get to work on cleaning it up. Under better light I noticed someone marked on the bottom of the frame, where the bottom of the cylinder would rest, their initials and a date with a sharpie. Weird, but okay. It came off with some gun cleaner.
My only complaint, and I use the word complaint loosely, is the grips. They are dinged up pretty good, but they can also be replaced easily.
I will attach some quality photos when I get a chance. For now all I have is those attached.
