Greetings S&W fans.

I finally picked up my first S&W a few days ago. It doesn`t appear to have been fired much. It is very clean. I have actually been looking for one of these. Sorry, no camera, no pics. I know, pics or it didn`t happen.

Here are the details. Model 65-5 round butt, 3 in. barrel. S/N BSP 53XX. It came with a set of Uncle Mike`s hard rubber grips and a Uncle Mike`s nylon holster. Better than nothing I guess.

Can someone please tell me the date made, and the correct style of grips for it? Thanks very much.

Hi, and welcome! There is a gap in the serial number database with this prefix, but I'd guess 1995. The grips are probably original (checkered sides, shallow finger grooves?); the wood type went away in about 1993. Hope this is helpful, and enjoy!

The round butt, 3" 65-5 was made from 1988 to 1995. I think BSP may be 1994 or later, I'd guess 1995. I'm still not very good with the Smith book.
Sorry.
If it's a Ladysmith, it was produced 1991 to 1998. "Ladysmith" would be scribed on the side. I would love to have one - Ladysmiths are pricey.
The grips depend on which it is.
I have a police trade-in 65-3. This gun has as good a trigger as any other gun we own, including my wife's 1968 Colt Python.

:) Welcome to the forum Don and congratulations. That 3" barrel is hot right now. People are buying them as fast as they go on sale. Don

Thanks for the welcome gentlemen.

Did Uncle Mike make factory original grips for the 65? They are checkered, but I`m not sure if the grooves would be considered shallow. They aren`t as shallow as the grooves in the grips in WVfishguy`s photo. They don`t have the S&W medallions.

It isn`t a LadySmith, but I would take one if I could get a good deal on it.

I have a Python I bought new in 1977 and I have never found another revolver that had a nicer trigger pull, but this one has promise.

Thanks for the welcome and info. Much appreciated.

Yes Uncle Mike made factory grips for S&W, early on I don't believe they had the S&W logo but later ones do. I really like the Uncle Mike grips but someone bought them out and no longer produce them for retail sale. FYI Smith still has them for sale, I don't know if they are old stock or still being produced for them.

Thanks Mack,

I am surprised Uncle Mike made factory grips for this 65. I would have bet they would have had to have the logo`s to be from the factory. I see they still have the unmarked ones on their site as well.
