Hello, all! I'm new to the S&W forum & look forward to leaning all I can about the M&P pistols, as they're at the top of my "Next Gun to Buy" list. I currently EDC a Shadow Systems MR920P, which I absolutely LOVE. However, while it IS a setup I'm wanted a while (G19L), I'm SUPER interested in the M&P Carry Comp Compact.

Having rent & shot a full-size M2.0, I was/am AMAZED at how smooth it shoots, & cannoten begin to imagine how smoothe the Carry Comp shoots. However, I'm more interested in the Carrt Comp Compact. My question to you all is, if the Carry Comp Compact is unavailable when I'm ready to buy, does the standard Compact shoots as smoothly (or as close to smooth) as the standard full-size M2.0?

Hello and welcome to the forum from NW PA.

NW PA?! My in-laws live in Union City & my wife & I lived in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh for 13 yrs. We moved to Nashville (Memphis is my hometown) 10 yrs ago, but still get up to UC to see the in-laws. I moved to Pittsburgh in '02 to go to culinary school, ended up meeting my wife, & we lived there for the aforementioned 13 yrs.

Welcome to the madness from the People's Republic of California.

Fear not, my friend!!! There's PLENTY of room here in the Volunteer State!!! Maybe not in the Nashville area, we're full here! 😁 But East TN is BEAUTIFUL. AND we're a Constitutional/open carry state. Oh. & no state income tax! And SEC football! 😁

I have shot a FS 1.0 fairly extensively and a 2.0 Compact (3.6" barrel) somewhat less. I find the FS to be easier to shoot/it takes more concentration to shoot the Compact, but not significantly. I'd say buy both and compare. :)

Well, I know I won't have the money for both. I pissed away ALOT of money into the PDP Pro I bought in April trying to make it not just less snappy, but actually ENJOYABLE to shoot, in addition to the usual accessories like optic, light, & holster. I ended up having to buy a 2nd comp because the 1st, while nice, just didn't do the job. All the while, kicking myself for not buying the gun I'd had my eye on since last November, the Shadow Systems MR920L. I'd heard ppl say the PDP was snappy, but I figured it couldn't be THAT bad. But it is. It's SO over-sprung with such a heavy slide that even comping it isn't enough, as I learned the hard way by putting the PMM comp on it, but not as softer spring as well. So now I have an overly snappy comped gun with the ridiculous extra length added by the comp. I find the PDP to be overrated other than it's superb trigger & ergos.

I rectified the issue by buying a Shadow Systems MR920P last month. I broke it in 2 wks ago & it was SO nice that it made me mad YET AGAIN that I bought the PDP, & NOT the Shadow Systems. They (Shadow Sytems( have hit a home run with the comp on their P models, which is essentially their version of a Radian. And I even got the MR920L length, just with a comp on the end. My Dara level 2 holster gets here tomorrow & I'm pretty excited to start carrying a lighter, somewhat smaller gun. I have to carry open due to having an ostomy, so hence the level 2 holster.

IF I decide to not invest the money on the soon-to-be-released PMM JTTC Micro barrel/comp combo for the PDP & a 15# ZR Tactical captured guide rod, the purchase of both which would make carrying & shooting it FAR more enjoyable then I plan to unload it & see what I can get for a trade. I have my eye on the Echelon, the M2.0 Compact Carry Comp 4in., the Sig 320 XCarry Tacops, & the 365 AXG Legion, & FINALLY, the Canik Mete SF. So God only knows what I'll choose. Whatever it is, I just don't care to repeat the PDP misadventure.

Welcome to the forum.

I am having the opposite experience with my first PDP, and it has become my favorite 9mm pistol to shoot, and compete with.

I'm not getting how everyone is saying they are "snappy". I'm not feeling it.

Grip is everything.

That's all I'll say about that here. This is a S&W forum after all.

If you want to make any 9mm "less snappy" try using ammo with 147gr bullets. It makes any 9mm feel like your shooting a full size 380.

The HST 147's penetrate a bit deeper also.

Well, for me, the fact that it's over-sprung with an extremely heavy slide makes it STUPID snappy. I'd rather enjoy shooting my gun than have to worry about 1000% correct, to the letter grip fundamentals every time I shoot it. I also don't have the world's biggest hands, even with the smallest backstrap in. It's just not the gun for me & was more of an impulse buy that I now tremendously regret. I MAY decide to put the money into the PMM Micro when it comes out (I also hate the added length of the standard PMM comp), as well as a ZR Tactical captured 15# guide rod/spring. If not, I'm trading it.

But to every cloud, there's a silver lining. With what I can get in trade for it, I can get an M2.0 9mm compact which, other than the Echelon, is THE SMOOTHEST shooting pistol I've ever shot. So there IS that

I get it.

Good for you. Enjoy your M&P's.
