New to the 15-22 - Scope Mounting Question

Hey everyone, been lurking around here for some time doing a lot of research. Ordering my S&W M&P 15-22 MOE on Friday and damn looking forward to it.

The only additions I'm looking to add right away (other than a bunch of mags) is the angled fore grip from Magpul and a scope.

I'm a complete newbie to this, but I think I have decided on the Leapers 1-4x24 CQB Long Eye Relief Scope (SCP-599 - 1-4x24 CQB Long Eye Relief Scope, 30mm Tube, Leapers UTG, Red Green Illuminated Etched Glass Mil-dot Reticle, 1/2 MOA, Matte Black, Includes Quick Detach Rings and Flip Open Lens Covers.

My question is that it comes with quick-detachable weaver rings, but should I get a better set of rings? Also, how should I mount it? I've seen some people use risers, etc. Any suggestions?

Looks OK for a low-end scope; scopes can get very pricy. The M&P seems to have a very short LOP to me, so long eye relief shouldn't really be an issue. So long as you're not using the BUIS (co-witness) the included rings should be fine. Ron

You wiml have to mount it and see how it feels for you, i have Weaver extra high rings and its still about a 1/4-1/2" lower than i would like but iv adjusted to it

Don't worry about co-witnessing the irons with the scope. You can't use them with magnified optics.

I'm not a fan of risers. It's just one more weak point in the mounting system and it doesn't look the best IMO. I would get a decent one piece mount in the height that works well for you. If you leave the flip-up sights on, you'll need a mount that will clear them. If your rifle comes with gen1 magpul sights (taller than gen2 when folded), you will have to make sure the ocular bell (rear of scope) clears them. I doubt it will with the supplied rings.

I have an extra brand new non QD mount from PA that is made for long eye relief 30mm optics if you're interested. It put the optic a little too far forward for my liking, but I don't shoot nose to charging handle. I'll trade for a 25 rounder or even a 10 rounder.

The mount isn't going anywhere unless another member wants it (I always need more mags). Take your time.
