New to the S&W M&P AR10 .308

I bought a used AR10 .308. It came with a different hand guard, thought I'd like to return it to the original. So many websites, so much info it makes it hard. It would like to make it mine with certain mods/changes but I'm overwhelmed with it all. Any help and guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance
