Might as well live large at home...or view a larger tv.

I see that four 49" models are available from Sony.
Ranging in price for 645 to 995.
I'm a Sony fan, ...and a pretty low tech kind of guy, but figured I might as well go for the best one, the Magnolia, at the top of the price range.
Anyone here have one? Thanks.

Are you size bound? I think the 55 inch family offers a much wider group, with some really excellent buying opportunities now. A 55 is only a couple three inches wider but way more screen area.

Thanks. I'll consider that size. I had thought about a 60 inch, but in visualizing it on the wall, it seemed too overwhelming.

I bought a 60" Samsung. My wife thought that I had lost my mind, she said it was too big. I think that it fills the space on the wall just right. A week with the new set and she was totally sold. Mine sits on a 6 drawer dresser unit that holds all of our Blue-Rays and DVD's.

I was in a friend's small apartment and he had a mega size tv on the wall.
Pretty much like sitting front row in a movie theatre.

I am just blown away by the bang for the buck available in TVs nowadays.

No kidding. Costco has "WOW!" 65 inchers available for about what I paid for my 55 inch "Meh" RCA about 4-ish years ago.

Kinda sorta wish the RCA would die. ;)

We had a Samsung 55" we bought when Smart TVs first came out and loved it but we live in the country and have bad internet so there was a lot of buffering. My wife wanted a newer TV with more Apps and thought a newer TV might also help with the buffering but I didn't think it would. Well last week I looked at all the TVs at Costco and bought another Samsung but a bit bigger at 65" for $479. I love the thing! It has a better picture, better sound, more user friendly with apps and streaming, and best of all...no more buffering. My living room is pretty long and the TV is far away and the big 65 inch screen is awesome.

In 2018 I broke down and replaced our 32" with a TCL 49" smart TV, ran $349 at Target. Works great, lots of gimmicks and great picture. Didn't regret buying it.

LG or Samsung are the top rated. JMO and ratings, But regardless with any good TV there are so many features it is not necessary to get all the bells and whistles and people can not see the difference. The tech today is amazing.

My 32" Sony Bravia serves me well for OTA TV.

The commercials are bad enough. Why would anyone want to view them on a larger screen.

That's the tv that I'm using now(though on cable) Perfect for the size of the room that it is in.
I now want to set up a bigger unused room in the house, as my new lounging/ evening viewing room.

I found myself in a similar situation as you describe. I had a 42" Sony that I bought when flat screen TVs were fairly new. When it went Kaflooie (a technical term) I ended up buying a 65 inch LG Oled flat screen, and I was able to put it in the same place as the old 42 inch set. Two factors made this possible 1) TV screens are measured diagonally, which meant a lot of the increase in the screen size went up in the air and 2) the new 65 inch screen covered the entirety of the cabinet, whereas on the old 42 inch set part of the cabinet was covered significantly by something other than the screen. I think if you take actual measurements, you will find that you should be able to put a 65 inch TV in the existing space you have for a TV now. And believe me, you will want the biggest TV you can put in the space.

I only buy Sony TVs anymore.

Had an LG in the bedroom bought new in 2007, died 2009. Seems it was common for them to have capacitors to go bad and solder joints to crack on the boards. Opened it up, what a pain to work on. Off to the store and the Sony works great.

I replaced one other and bought a 60 for the TV room.

I couldn't be happier with them.

For some reason, I always seem to get poorly made Korean products and I avoid them when possible. I guess I avoid China now too, as much as we can really, not easy to impossible.

I would vote for a Samsung as well. We are on our third one. Started at 55, then 65 and now the 75. The thing is awesome. It is about 1/4 inch thick. We have a good bit of distance between the seating area and where it sits, but we love it. The only reason I didn't go bigger is that I don't want to wall mount it. We may sell this place and I don't want to lock a buyer into the layout we have today. Our approach to space is a bit on the eclectic side. Just the wife and myself no kids etc. Good luck to you. TV's are cheap considering what they deliver today.
