Just a quick admonition here - it's easy to over-celebrate on New Year's eve.

One of my neighbors had a New Year party at his house last year, and in an effort to stay relatively sober, when someone would "refresh" his drink against his wishes, he would discreetly let his dog have some of his drink.

The result was not pretty. I do NOT recommend this practice!

I would normally think that the picture was funny if he was just sleeping like that but

Alcohol and dogs don't mix well. Alcohol contains ethanol, which is toxic for canines. Alcohol can even be fatal for dogs, depending on the ingested amount and the content of ethanol. Never give your dog alcohol on purpose, and if he accidentally swallows some, you should visit the vet to prevent complications.

He is lucky the dog is alive.

Your neighbor might want to keep that little incident on the "QT," John. That's the kind of stuff the SPCA lives for, not to mention the thugs from PETA. I'm afraid they'd try to nail your neighbor's hide to the outhouse wall, or something worse, if they ever found out about that.:)

Oddly enough, I have known people who claimed that their dogs liked to drink beer. A second hand though probably true story told of a dog that liked whiskey, and when drunk, would chase imaginary rabbits.

I had never heard of anyone losing a dog owing to the practice. Some claimed it gave the dog a healthier coat. The golden retriever of an ex gfs brother somewhat regularly drank Coors. It lived to be quite old for a dog, 14 or so.

Of course I used to have a dog that loved nothing more than chicken bones and whole chicken carcasses, only years later did I learn this was supposedly quite dangerous.

Oddly enough, I have known people who claimed that their dogs liked to drink beer.

Long long ago while at University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana one of the fraternities had Ox, a St. Bernard that drank beer.

After receiving complaints about this practice; they held a public demonstration. Three bowls were prepared - water / milk / beer.
When Ox walked in he looked at the water / sniffed at the milk / started slurping the beer.

I do not remember any reports of seeing Ox drunk - the fraternity members were a different matter.

Funny picture and funny story with it, thanks for sharing.

When I was a teenager, my mother had a miniature dachshund. My brother and I would put beer in a dish and the dog would drink it. You could tell when the dog had enough when he would bark at the dish and not drink any more. When he went out side, he cocked his leg to pee and fell over.

Had a Malamute mix that liked a good ale (wouldn't touch the cheap stuff) After she died,we got a lab,the first time I gave her some, she went in the new house and urped on the carpet in front of the missus [emoji32]

When I was boy, I had a pet dachshund whose name was Fritz. That's a picture I took of him, very near to where this incident happened. My mother and dad would often have wine at dinner, and one evening Fritz decided he wanted some - so he sat up and begged for it. My dad soaked a piece of bread in the wine and gave to him. He wolfed it down, and then sat up for more. And Dad gave it to him. This continued for quite a few minutes. Finally, Fritz quit begging. He went over to middle of the living room and, tucking his front legs under him, he fell on his chest, his chin on the floor. He slowly started to propel himself towards the wall, chest still on the floor, front legs tucked under, using just his hind legs. He picked up some speed as he went along. When his nose hit the wall, he collapsed and went to sleep. He was out like a light for hours! Fritz became a family legend for that performance.

One year one of our friends got a chocolate liquor gift set...those tiny little chocolate shaped bottles with different liquors in it.

They mistakenly left two Orange Stoli ones on the table and their German Shepherd made a snack out of them.

They dog was OK, the owners were quite horrified though. :p
