Newbie question about 686 lock

This is probably a stupid newbie question, so please forgive my ignorance!

I'm thinking of buying a 686 (with 6" barrel), and I'm not familiar with the lock on the 686 that people complain about. Please explain what/where the lock is, and why people complain about it. Should I consider this in my purchase?
