Newbie question

I recently came into the possession of a S&W Model 65-3 which has the Hogue rubber grips on it. Did the Model 65-3 originally have wood grips and if so where could I find some wood grips that isn't extremely expensive?

Your model 65-3 probably came from the factory with walnut Magna stocks. These follow the grip frame contour but are slightly wider. This online auction (not mine) shows the square butt version, where the bottom flares out:

Your gun may have a round butt, where the lower grip frame tapers in, so the stocks would look like this:

Don't blame you for trying. I got my M65 in a deal 3 or 4 years ago and they came with the Hogue grips. Hated them and rooted around in my grip drawer and found a matching pair of the original grips and slapped them on there. Sure looks better and feels even nicer.
